I'm not even suppossed to be here today

Oh man we just got back from a midnight showing of the movie Clerks. As you know Kath and i are huge Kevin Smith fans. Unfortunately before tonight we had yet to see his first 3 films in a movie theatre environment. Our first Kevin Smith film in a theater was Dogma in 1999. The Pen Cinemas was playing Clerks and we had to go. I first saw it on video tape back in 1994. A co worker of mine recommendded it to me and I've been a big fan of Mr Smiths ever since. Its pretty much the story of my life. A couple of guys dealing with asshole customers. Hmmm why does that sound familliar. Man i love that movie. I guess at least once a month The Pen is going to play older movies. I'm definately keeping my eyes open for Mallrats and Chasing Amy. What a great night. Thanks to Rob and Nickle for going with us. It was still very funny. Speaking of asshole customers guess what I'm doing in 6 hours. Son of a bitch.

Thursday with the fam

My sister picked me up to around noon. After taking me to get my comics(thanks Su) we headed off to her place. Saw my brother in law Dean for the first time since Christmas. SHe gave me my birthday present and Diana and i stayed for supper and cake. My mom also joined us and as usual she got me some cool Christmas ornaments for my birthday. She gave me another Indiana Jones ornamebt and this one says "snakes, why'd it have to be snakes?" We all had a pretty good conversation as well. Capped off the evening with a viewing of the 1985 film The Goonies. Kath picked me up around 10 and hung out with Rob and nickle for a bit. Pretty cool day all around.

Good mood

wow birthday actually turned out nice, Diana and Kath brought me home an ice cream cake. Gosh it was swell. Got a lot of nice messages on facebook as well. Work wasnt even that bad this week. I've kind of been in a good mood. It's rare and weird. Just waiting for the fam to come home. Gonna watch the new batman animated movie. Tomorrow I'm going to my sisters house and gonna hang out with my family. Should be cool. Wow my blogs sure are boring when i'm not pissed off. Well theres always next week i guess.

Shift bid

Wow work actually did something cool for me today. We had a major shift bid last week. We all had to pick what shifts we liked on a shift that had 85 choices. It was brutal. People actually quit over this. I got the same days off and i start a bit later now. This means i can sleep in a bit and have more time with Kath at night. So I'm pretty excited and i'm cool with what i got, Now if only the customers could just shut the hell up. Life would be sweet

Another birthday

Can i please stop aging now? I can't believe I'm 41 now. How did that happen. Sheesh. Actually i can't complain. Even though i had to work today I was in a good mood. Lots of birthday messages on Facebook today. I get the feeling I'm loved.

A quiet Thursday with the fam

So i had a really nice Thursday off as well. Kath and i went for a drive out to the country to buy fruit. It really reminded me of when i was a kid and my family would go out driving for no reason. I remember going to a place in the country called willis'. We used to get pop in the old little glass bottles and then we would walk around the side of the building and look at chickens. Good times!

Yestersay we went out to vineland and bought some peaches and plums. Also stopped at Wallmart to get a few groceries and look at dvds and stuff. It was a nice little afternoon with Kath and Diana. I liked it. The end.

Barney Bentall night

What an excellent Wednesday. Anyday i get off of work is a great day. The reason it was so great? I got to see my first concert in 2 years. Barney Bentall was playing at the old winery restaurant in Niagara on The Lake. I have to say it was a cool little venue and the acoustics were awesome. My friend Stacey came with us. We had been trying for 3 years to find a cool concert to go to together.

After a dinner at a fancy looking Macdonalds we drove to the show. As we were pulling up to the show who was walking down the street? Barney Bentall himself. Still very cool. As I've stated before I've been a fan for over 20 years and just love his music a lot. This was to be my 16th show since 1990 and Kaths 5th show.

The show started around 8:30 with an acoustic version of his 1997 song Shoulder of the Road. He alternated between older and newer tunes and told many interesting stories about his family.

If that werent enough during the 2nd set he brought out Jim Cuddy as his special guest. They sounded incredible together. They sang a couple Blue Rodeo songs and did a kick ass version Of Barney's big 1988 hit Something To Live For.

After words we got to chat with Barney again. He signed a cd for us. After we told him we had danced to his song True Love Ways at our wedding he took the cd back and signed True Love rules! Such a nice guy. We had another photo with him. What a great all around evening. Thanks to Stacey for coming with us and a big thanks to Anthony for babysitting Diana for us. We left the show in such a great mood. I hope its not another 2 years before we see him in concert. I really wanna see him rock out with his band the Legendary Hearts just one more time. Anyhow thats the story of our awesome night. Take care everyone.

Show issues again

So Saturday night Kath and i recorded an epic 3 hour edition of Get Your Geek On. For the first time we produced the show ourselves. There was a few glitches but we feel we did ok. We were happy with the show. It had been 2 weeks since a new episode and we were excited.

Come Sunday night when the show actually aired,we werent so excited anymore. The first hour or so aired ok and then something weird happenned. Instead of the second half of the show instead we got songs from the 1950's and 1960's. We were not impressed. In fact we were feeling a little pissed off. Two weeks in a row the show had gone in the crapper.

Today i'm feeling a little better. We had a discussion with our producers and they had some good ideas for the show. Hopefully this won't be an issue again. We really like the show a lot and it gets me through the week at my shitty day job.

Return to work

No big surprise my good mood lasted about as long as it took to walk through the doors of work. Found outthee is a new shift bid so maybe my hours will be f'ed up in the future. For some reason i couldnt use the new and improved search engine--my password wouldnt work. So i had to use the old shitty engine. Frustration levels were high all day. It was crazy busy to. I couldnt get out of there fast enough. At least i had a show to record. Or did i? More on that later

The last day before i returned to hell

Friday July 16th--the last day of no work for 9 days. I was feeling a bit sad. I ws happy though because i got to spend the whole day with Kath. We had originally planned to go to Buffalo to see the band Crowded House. Mid way through the afternoon we knew that wasnt going to happen.

We had already booked an over night babysitter for Diana so we decided to still take advantage of that. After we dropped Diana off we went to the states to pick up some groceries. We got our vacation pay so we picked up the Bruce Springsteen London Calling dvd and the Lego Indiana Jones game for the wii. After returning to Canada we decided to go to a movie. We were pretty up to date with stuff we wanted to see so we saw the Sorcerers apprentice--the new nic cage movie. It was pretty cool. I like Nic cage when he's in actio type movies like that. We capped the night off with some adult fun. No i won't kiss and tell. It was a fun night and i love Kath a lot. Hopefully the good mood would last for my return to work the next morning.

Thursday stuff

Had a pretty cool day. Woke up feeling like crap. Lucky for me Diana let me rest on the couch for a couple of hours. Got up,had a bit of lunch and then took Diana to Tim Hortons for a donut. Then i took her to liquidation world and bouught her some Toopy and Beenoo stickers. Toopy and Beenoo are a weird cat and mouse cartoon Diana watches. Shortly after i got home Rob called and asked if i could help him. the train rek radio station was being moved to a new location. So i helped them carry some equipment over and became a sweaty mess.

After coming back home, Kath informed me of a possible interview for the show. Our friend Amy spoke to a guy by the name of Townsend Coleman and told him about our show. Who you may ask? Why the guy who did the voice of the Tick! I'm very excited. He gave his contact info to AMy to give to us. Hopefully we'll speak with him in the next few weeks.

Holy crap the diet is working!

Wow I can't believe it. I stepped on the scale for my weekly weigh in and i lost another 5 pounds! Thats 15 since i started a month and a half ago. I'm now at 217. My new goal ist to be 210 pounds by fan expo at the end of August. I may be wearing a costume so i want to drop some more weight. Who know's i may try and get to under 200 pounds. I can't remember the last time i was under 200. I even wore an old concert t shirt i hadnt worn since my 30's. I have a whole drawer of t shirts I'm hoping to fit into. I think drinking a ton of water is helping a lot. Anyhow I'm gonna keep at it. Thats all for now.

frigging technology

Man what a shitty day in regards to technology. This morning i accidently clicked on something and all of a sudden we had a new virus protection plan. As soon as i did this it refused to let me look at my emails or burn dvd's or anything. I could kind of get on the internet but every 10 seconds what get an annoying big box on the screen stating there were virusws galore. It was very frustrating as i use the email function to communicate with Kath during the day when she is at work. Anyhow Kath is the smart one in the family so when she got home she was able to fix the situation.

Anyhow just a few minutes ago i was watching a movie i had recorded on our dvd. Kath had fallen asleep so i was gonna watch a bit of tv before bed. All of a sudden our dvr started going nuts and saying it was doing a download. Then the tv shut off and came back on. Then the dvr said we didnt have service. It just came back on with no information on any of the channels. Maybe that crazy guy i talked to last year wasnt so crazy. Maybe the future as portrayed in the terminator movies is gonna come true. Nah I just need some sleep.

Our Sunday from hell

What a shitty day. It started off with a flat tire. Kath couldnt go into work. Later in the day a neighbour of ours Gary brought over an air compressor which pumped it up enough for us to get to a gas station. We bought a can of tire sealant which seemed to do the job. Kath missed work but is sure she can pick up extra hours.

Anyhow now we could do the show. Or so we thought. Someone just didnt want us doing a show this week. Rob and Matt were away on train rek radio business so I've been getting trained on how to produce. On top of that we had a guest drop out on us and Kath forgot her comics at work. We review comics on every show. With the flat we didnt know what we were going to do. Anyhow we got a new guest, We had back up comics and the tire got patched up. I thought i knew what i was doing when it came to producing. We got there, I set up everything thr way i was told and then Kath asked a simple question that i didnt have an answer for. The question was "how do we hear the show in the headphones?" Well i didnt have a clue. We must have fiddled with the board for an hour. Finally we got music coming through the headphones. I couldnt hear me but Kath could hear a distorted me. The screen that was suppossed to record the show wasnt recording anything. My friends who were listening said all they could hear was static. It was awesome. After an hour i said screw it and gave up. After all the crap we went through that week to get the show on the air and a technical difficulty took us out of the game. I was pissed.

So not a great day. Hoping the tire holds up until at least friday when we can buy a new one. I have the next five days off so i should be able to relax a little.

Friday

Day 2 of watching Rob's sons. I have to admit they have been pretty good. They're really nice to Diana and my cats so they are alright in my book.

Man i must have really needed sleep because i slept till noon today. Diana slept in as well. What a miserable day outside. Its pouring rain.

I'm happy i'm not at work. I seriously had a headache that didnt let up for 2 days this week.

Had a couple guys do an energy audit at our home yesterday. Had to check the furnace and stuff. Yeah wasnt impressed. The one guy opened the door by putting his hand through the screen. Wtf? How do you open a door like that? I asked Diana how do you open a door? She said with a door knob. So congragulations jack ass energy guys. My 5 year old daughter knows how to open a door and you don't. Assholes.


Anyhow i gotta get my ass in gear and try and come up with some story ideas on Sunday. Kath is home with me tomorrow so we may watch a bunch of movies. I'll blog again later.

tid bits

Oh yeah! Off for the next 9 days!! A whoo hoo. If all goes well i may be seeing Crowded House on the 16th. God i love the 80's.

Its been a hot week and at 8:40 in the morning its already hotter than hell out there today as well.

We're watching Rob's sons Anthony and Connor for the next 5 days. Should be interesting.

I think we had an inspection yesterday. Sure wish i knew the results of it. I'm not to worried i guess.

Just re read the 2005 young Avengers mini series. Forgot how much i loved it. I don't know why i didnt buy the follow up mini series but now i have something to look for at fan expo in August.

Work really blew this week. I had one rude lady keep screaming hellloooooo in my ear over and over again. She sounded like Biff Tannen from Back to the future. At one point i thanked her for the Back to the future im pression. Yeah the heat plus hunger for lunch got to me.

Almost forgot to wish a very happy birthday to one of my all time favorite singers Huey Lewis. Thanks for all the great tunes man. May you continue to keep the heart of rock and roll beating. Oh and thanks for singing Cruisin cause that became my song with Kath! You rock! Oh and coincedently its also the 25th anniversay of Back to The Future. Time flies. I am old.

Some assorted crap!

Holy crap what a difference a couple of days makes. Saturday was super crazy beyong busy at work. Today i think i took 20 calls in 8 hours. Why 8 hours instead of 10? I hot sent home 2 hours early because it was so dead. Oh well, Funny thing is I'm not even upset. I'm glad I'm home. I'm even going to be on Rob's show in a couple of hours. We had unit inspections today. I think our place looked good. I guess I'll have to wait for the outcome. I'm really liking the new landlady Christina. She's really nice and doesnt try and intimidate us like the last one did. I'm sure the inspection was fine. Had to hop our back gate at lunch. I didnt have my key and of course after the inspection our door got locked. Yeah I'm not young anymore so that'll be the last time i ever climb a fence. Scouts honor. Had a great time at Rob's birthday party at Queenston Heights. Had pizza and cup cakes. Diana had a great time playing in the sp[lash pad thats set up there. Capped the evening off with another get your geek on. Nexy weel I'm producing the show on my own. I'm a bit nervouss but I think I'll be ok. Anyhow that's all i got. Have a great day gang!
