Nice work Diana

I am seriously proud of my kid. She kicked serious butt with her report card. All as and bs and she improved from good to excellent in a lot of categories. Her teacher wrote nice things about her. So proud. Thank God she takes after Kath in the smarts department. She rocks. I can't believe she's going into grade 3. Why is she growing up so fast?

Dammit!! part 2

Eating supper and part of my tooth fell out. What the hell? Luckily it was from the back of my mouth. F me. Seriously.

Dammit!! Part one

I am having issues reading now. Straining my eyes to read small print. Think i may need glasses. Son of a bitch. Oh well maybe it'll be like a superman/clark kent thing and no one will know its me when 'm wearing them.

Con day 2!!

Good day and welcome to  day 2 of our Niagara Falls comic con coverage. Saturday was fun but crowded. We had a better time on Sunday. It wasn't as busy and we were able to move about freely. We decided to do all our work when we got there at 11. Let me walk you through our interviews.

Interview  # 1 was with a fellow geek journalist we had met at Pulp Comics on Free Comic Book day. Her name was Steph and she runs her own geek web site called the Geek Chic Elite or GCE for short. We thought she was really cool when we met her and we had set up an interview with her that day. At the con she was really nice and we got to go into her booth to interview her. It was really great. Kath and i felt a kindred spirit with her. She also makes her own geek themed soaps including an awesome Han Solo in carbon Freeze, We bought some soap and pins from her.

Interview #2 was with  a very important organization called Cosplay for A cure. They raise money for cancer research by taking donations. When you make donations you can have your pic taken with one of their cos players. We had our pic taken with Jubillee and Wonder Girl. Its a fantastic group and if you see these people at a future convention please contribute.

That brings us to Interview #3. We actually knew the guy doing the photos for Cosplay For A cure. His name  is Rob and  he worked with me at my hellish job for about 9 years out of my 12. Great guy. He runs  his own photography company called Rebel Shotz  photography. I used to have awesome conversations with him at work about old tv shows and sci fi movies. We'd been enjoying his photos on facebook. He is really talented. Then we found out he was going to be helping out at the con and asked him for an interview. We had a great time catching up with Rob.
Our next two interviews were with 2 of our good friends---Artist extraordinaire and partner to  us on the podcast John Bulmer and Kristen Hunter who was there selling her geek themed Jewelry.  They were great as usual.

We also got to interview a couple of local guys that started their own local comic book company called Poor man Comics. Here's the cool thing. As soon as i mentioned who we were they knoew who we were! They were actually following us on twitter!  Small world. That's actually something else i wanted to mention. We've had the podcast in existence for 4 months and  this was the 4th  event we have covered. People from past events  were coming up to us and saying hi! Different artists and people like us were shaking hands with us and thanking us for interviews and what not. Kath and i really felt appreciated and part of a community. Again were getting this great feedback and friendship after 4 months. Makes me feel like were doing something right. It felt good. More people are checking us out-- a lot more than with the old show that's for sure. I feel kind of proud.

All in all our con experience was great. We had a fantastic time and we're already  looking forward to next year.

Niagara Falls comic con day one

Hey gang. While I'm in such a good mood I want to tell you about this years experience at the Niagara Falls Comic con. It was a 2 day event this year. It's certainly grown from the small even it began as 2 years ago. Our friend Paul outdid himself this year. We were lucky enough to go both days. On free comic book day we got a special deal where we bought Saturday tickets and got Sunday tickets for free. Sweet deal. It was the first time Kath and i would be going to  more than a day of a con. We were denied press passes despite our best attempts. We still went in We Got the Geek  mode and we were able to get some  great  interviews.

Saturday was insanely busy. Lots of people. At one point the building was at capacity and they weren't letting a lot of people in. I'm not a big fan of large crowds and neither is Kath. She set up camp in the lobby and i took Diana around to shop. I was able to find 2 really cheap graphic novels. I  like saving money. I;m a big fan of that. Kath and i decided that we would do all our interviews and work for the podcast on Sunday. We scheduled interview times with  everyone for the following day.

We got to see a bunch of our friends and family on the first day. My mom and nephew showed up. It was my mom's first con and she loved it. Our friends John and Kristen had booths there. We got to hang out with them for a bit. Lots to see there. The bat mobile and General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard were there. Very cool. It was a great day and we didn't spend a lot of money!! In part 2 I'll tell you about our interviews on 2 the second day and why we feel very welcome in the geek community!

Fun Expo 2013

Well a few weeks later we were back at Fun Expo in Welland. This was our third year attending. Its a star wars related show for charity and we had liked going to it in previous years. This year would be different. We would be having a table there to promote We Got The Geek. Bulmer had talked us up to the guy in charge of the event Mr  Rob D'Onofrio. We were honored to be there. We set up our table and played the roll the dice game. Our buddy Ryan showed up and took a million awesome pictures and he helped me do several interviews. We interviewed three amazing artists-Christopher yao, Mike Rooth and Leonard Kirk(who works for Marvel comics).

Now i want to tell you the amazing  part of the day. I got to interview 2 actors that had appeared in the original Star Wars trilogy. Firs up was Pam Rose who played an alien in the famous Cantina scene from the original film. We also got to talk with Mr Alan Flyng who was in not 1 but 2 star wars films. He played a storm trooper in the scene where Han Solo was frozen in the Empire Strikes Back and in Return of the Jedi he played an imperial officer. I've been a huge star wars fan my whole life so i was seriously nerding out. They were both really nice. I was so nervous talking to them but i think i did a good job.

So to top off the day,as i was helping John pack up his table. Pam Rose came by and invited Kath and i along to the end of the day dinner celebrating the day. I was in shock. We went to dinner and it was the perfect end to the perfect day. Thanks
Rob for including us.We'll see you next year at Fun Expo 2014

Art o con!!

Ok enough screwing around. I need to catch up on my blogging. I admit i have been lazy. I come home from my job, usually with a headache and i crash on the couch. Well because of this i have neglected my blog. Weve had some positive things happen to us and i'd like to share it with anyone still following the blog. We have now covered four major events with We Got The Geek. You already know about our awesome Free Comic Book day at Pulp Comics. The next event actually occurred the next day in Burlington at a new  con called art o con.

So we were invited by our good friend artist extraordinaire John Bulmer to share a table with him at this event. Its been in existence for two years now and its a show case for artists and their work. The lady that organized the event was named Lara Aiken and we had done an interview with her a few weeks earlier that proved to be really popular. She was awesome and the event she put on was great.

We were seated by the Doctor Who society of Canada. They had built life size replicas of the Daleks--the evil robots from Dr  Who. The robots moved and talked and they were really cool. We got some fantastic interviews as well. We got to interview a group of cos players called the Xmen of Toronto. They dress like characters from the Xmen and do a lot of charity work. Very nice group. We also spoke with a great artist from studio comikx named Alfonso. Great guy, We also got to speak with someone we had interviewed on the old show--Lisa from Nerd Biskit. She makes fantastic crafts and she has been a great friend to us.

It was an awesome day and one of the best shows we have attended. We were thankful for being asked to attend. We were already told we would be asked back  for next year, Can't wait.
