Jay's goals for the new year

So its that time of year again. In honor of my last blog of 2010 i will look back to last years resolutions and see how i did. Here's the recap

So goals and resolutions for 2010

1} i need to lose another 15 pounds. I will get down to 210 pounds even if it kills me
2) gonna try really hard not to get pissed off at work. I started yesterday. I'm taking deep breaths before every call.
3} I will invent time travel and go back in time and steal super hero figures and vintage comics from the me of the 1970's. Then come forward in time and sell them. Then i can quit my job. This is a realistic goal right?
4}Somehow Rob and I will get to do our radio shows for a living and be paid handsomely.
5} 3 way with Lacey Chabert? Really Kath is on board for this. Honest!

How did i do?

1) i kinda sorta had some weight loss success this year. I started off at 238 pounds and got down to 215. Then as it is every year, winter came and i got lazy and i gained some weight back. Currently I'm at 223 pounds. So not quite my 210 goal.

2) yeah the don't get pissed off at work thing may have lasted 5 minutes after i started work on January 2nd. Work makes it hard with all the new rules and regulations the give us every day. Not to mention the bastard red necks i have to listen to. They all want something for nothing.

3) did i invent time travel? Not so much. I couldn't find a flux capacitor or a Tardis anywhere.

4) not doing the radio show for a living. I wish. We had a lot of fun this year creating our show. Definately my highlight of 2010 was wizard world and the interviews we got to do

5) Unfortunately our 3 way with Lacey Chabert didn't happen. This comes on the heels of my 2009 jennifer Love Hewitt sexcapade not working out either.

Jay's goals and resolutions for 2011

1) I'm gonna diet again and hopefully by the end of 2011 i'll be a slender reed. I want to drop some weight so i finally get to wear a costume to a convention.

2) ok seriously i need to relax at work. I'm going to try really hard to be calm around these assholes. If i have a heart attack at work the red necks win and we can't have that!

3) i want to make sure i stay in touch with all my friends a lot better than i did this year. I've already told friends like Dennis and Lisa we should get together more often. I want to at least email friends a lot more often.

4) more fun with the show. I want to try really hard to get more interviews this year. The more i do the better i will get at it.

5) ok i am running out of Party Of five actresses to have a 3 way with. This year i will try for Neve Campbell. She may have to take a day off of work from Macdonalds to accommodate this. Honestly I have the full support of my lovely wife Kath

In all seriousness 2010 turned out to be pretty good. Kath and i were talking last night about it. Sure a couple bad things happened but nothing like the shit storm of 2009. We had some great times with friends this year. We're hoping for an even better 2011. So happy new year to all my friends and family. I'm wishing you all the best in 2011!

Pizza with awesome friends

Last night we went to Buffalo to visit our good fried Hollie. I hadn't been to her home in 2 years. You might recall we had that crazy business with my passport last year. Hollie is a friend of Kath's from way back and she is really cool. We arrived around 7pm and Hollie had ordered us a pizza. It was a really good pizza too. As we got out of our van we noticed 3 deer running around in Hollie's yard. Very cool. Another friend Ian was there as well. We ate pizza and all had a bunch of laughs. Ian popped in the Will Ferrell classic Elf and we actually watched it twice. It's still a funny movie 7 years later.
We exchanged Christmas gifts as well Hollie has always given us the coolest 'geeky' gifts. One year she got us a drinking glass from the show Heroes, another year she got us a really cool ornament with 6 removable marvel super heroes. This year? Star Wars cup cake making kits. It'll go great with our star wars cookie cutter set.

Our visit came to an end shortly after midnight. Had a great time. Hope to visit more often now that the passport issue is behind us.

Jay turns into the hulk

Wow i have a day off and not a moment too soon. What an awful week. I wasn't expecting so many bastards calling in after Christmas. Yesterday i actually got so pissed off i yelled at a customer. In my defense she had told me to go "fuck myself" several times.
The call had started out ok. I was completely calm and nice. The lady calling had been shut off. She was a couple of months late. I was doing my best to be understanding and i was even going to give her an extention. Then i realized she had 6 extentions this year and we're really only allowed to give 4. The notes for the last extention stated it was a one time courtesy. I told her all of this and that's when she started yelling and stating she didn't care what i was seeing in the notes.

Then all of a sudden she mentioned she had made a payment in November with her bank. Hmmm why would you neglect to tell me this at the beginning of the call? Ok so i tried to explain that if it cleared her bank she will need to fax in something called a transmittal report so we can search for the payment. Nope that answer wasn't good enough. She wanted a supervisor to get on the phone and magically find the missing payment. Again i tried to reason with her stating i could get a supervisor but these are the procedures she will need to do to find a payment she claimed cleared through her bank. Then she kept repeating supervisor now! very loudly in my ear. Then she kept counting how many times she had bellowed for a supervisor while i stupidly kept trying to talk. By the time she yelled ten times! in my ear the smart a"ss part of my brain kicked in. Never a good thing at my job. I yelled back --"eleven! I started yelling at this point, "look i will get you a supervisor but there's no need to be rude to me." That met with (you guessed it) Twelve times! I don't know why i kept trying to explain our policies. She continued to yell. Finally i said i would get a manager and sarcastically said "merry christmas." Her answer to that? "go fuck yourself." And then i lost it. "what did you say to me?" it was like the scene in Back to the Future 2 where Griff called Marty Mcfly chicken. "you heard what i said." "no i'm hard of hearing would you care to repeat what you said to me." finally she said 'i told you to go fuck yourself asshole." "maam i'm not going to tolerate being treated that way." Then i hung up. A supervisor was standing there as i hit the release button. My face was red and i was shaking. I was that pissed off. I told the supervisor what she had said to me and that was that.

I read the notes of the next representative she spoke with. No mention was made of our conversation even though i had written a mini novel in her notes. Then big surprise i read she had given a different story. There was no mention of a payment clearing her bank account. Now she was claiming she had paid in cash and had a receipt for it. Yep i love when someone lies their ass off. Oh and to make matters even more awesome--yes she got a 7th extension. Anyhow i calmed down after that.

So that was officially my last asshole customer of 2010. I wonder how long into my shift next Monday until i talk to my first bastard customer of 2011.

Wow i just saw the new Duran Duran video for the song all you need is now. It sounds weird as hell but its a really cool song if that even makes sense. I like it a lot and Simon Lebon has a really cool beard now. Oh man and i feel really old. In February of next year it will be 30 years since the release of their first album. 30 years. I remember when they were a new band. So to sum up new Duran Duran song is cool and i'm massively old. Good night for now

Not a good first day back.

I should have known that going back to work was going to suck. My mind wasn't there. Diana had been up all night throwing up. I was worried about her all day and had no patience with asshole customers. Kath stayed home with her. I so didn't care about anybody but my kid. I sighed really loud when one customer pissed me off. It was non stop yelling douchebags all day.I was happy to get an email mid day stating Diana was doing a lot better. That made me happy. By night time Diana was back to normal, dancing and laughing and playing. Oh and it was official December 27th was my 9 year anniversary at my awesome job. I sure didn't feel very appreciated. Where was my cake and champagne? Ok i would have settled for a 'thanks for all your hard work.'That was probably asking way too much.

Christmas day 2010

Christmas was also pretty swell this year. Kath got stuck working but it helped because i had called in sick the week before. We got up early so Kath could watch Diana open her presents before she went to work. "Santa" had brought Diana a Barbie styling head and a Joker fun house to match the Bat cave she got last year. Kath and i got her some zhu zhu pets--they are little hamster toys that make noise and move on the floor. I also gave her the nintendo ds i had won and we bought her some games for it as well.

Kath went to work and my mom picked up Diana and i for Christmas dinner. My sister and Dean and the boys were there as well as my step sister Erin who I hadn't seen in a million years. They spoiled Diana rotten. I appreciated the gifts they got for her. Diana got lots of pajamas which was nice and lots of games and coloring books and stuff. My mom got Kath and i a pair of tickets to see Barney Bentall at Brock University in March. That totally rocked. She also got me the biography of Rick Springfield which is actually a really dark book.

Dinner was great. There was lots of turkey and mashed potatoes and desserts galore. Kath joined us around 7. It was awesome. Had a great time with the family. Man Christmas snuck up on us this year and then it was over really quick. Can't complain though. I had 4 days off in a row which was an awesome present itself. So hope all my friends had a great Christmas and hope your New years eve is awesome as well.

Christmas Eve 2010

Christmas eve was really cool. I had spent the day with Diana getting the house ready. I hung up all our stockings and some last minute decorations i had forgotten about. Kath came home around 7. Shortly after that some of our friends came over to eat cheese dip and exchange Christmas presents. First to arrive was Amy and Marcus and Nala the friendly dog. This meant it was time for Hesh and Merlin to run upstairs and hide. A few minutes later Rob and Nickle joined the festivities.
s
Kath outdid herself again for the snacks. Her chicken wing dip is always a hit. We did the ol'exchanging. Rob and Nickle got me a cool walking dead calendar and a superman book and an atom book. Cool stuff. We ate a lot of chips and crackers and chicken dip and had a lot of laughs. It was the perfect Christmas eve.

I do beleve in Santa Clause

Some good stuff actually happened to me this week. On Sunday we had an excellent show. Our friend Kristen was on the show. It turned out pretty good, We actually had a bunch of new listeners. Was very cool. We went out to Cheers after the show for chicken wings. I met some cool people that Kath works with.
Just listening to an old show right now that we recorded in November which had many technical difficulties. The first 15 minutes were annoying, i was like a deer caught in the headlights. Thankfully hot Amy was there to bail me out.

In really exciting news. I won a nintendo ds. My work had a 12 day Christmas giveaway. I walked into work the other day and before i even got to my desk, a really cool manager named Bethany came up to me and told me the good news. What makes the story even cooler,i guess about a week ago or so Diana told Kath she wanted a ds. So apparently there is a Santa Clause!

Diana's concert

Diana had her Christmas concert at school last night. Her class went on first and they sang some songs that featured bell ringing. It was really nice. I can't believe the hoops i had to jump through to get to see the concert. So i found out about the show about 3 'weeks ago. I went into work hoping they would be understanding. Nope. I was told i couldn't have the day off not even 2 hours so i could go. The only way i was getting the time off was to find someone to work for me. Yeah that was gonna be an easy task. Long story short my friend Trudy offered to work the last 2 hours of my shift. It was very nice of her--i wouldn't dream of asking my friends to come in and work on their day off from that place. What really makes me laugh-i was re reading last December's blogs and i guess i ran into the same situation and my boss at the time Erin had no problem getting me the whole day off. She was awesome. Too awesome for that place i guess cause she was let go. Anyhow thank you Trudy. I got to the show on time and it was great.

Tim Allen can be funny sometimes

I'm a little behind with blogs this week so its catch up time. It's almost Christmas time. Here's something funny. I totally got sucked into The Santa Clause 2 and 3. You know, the tim allen movies where he becomes santa clause. I saw the original back in 1994 when it first came out. I thought it was ok. It didn't make me want to the sequels in 2004 or 2006. Anyhow fast forward to 2010 and my work has been playing christmas movies for the last 2 weeks on a big screen with no sound. One day they played the santa clause and i got mildly interested. So i recorded 2 and 3. I found out that elizabeth mitchell fro lost and v was in it and i find her hot. I figured i'd probably watch a couple of minutes and get bored and erase it. Nope i couldnt stop watching. I watched 2 and part of 3 in one sitting and watched the rest of 3 today. The story was very good. The special effects were kinda cheesy. Not bad though.

Kath did most of the christmas wrapping today. Merlin slept under the tree and Diana went to her last day of school until 2011. I'm happy i'm off for 4 days in a row. Gonna try and get a bit of sleeping in. Diana will probably get up early every day. She has no problem getting up early on days where school isn't involved. She's funny that way. Man I'm feeling sleepy now but gonna blog and write back to a few friends.

Stupid syfy channel

Son of a bitch. The mega geniuses at the Syfy channel have canceled Stargate Universe after only 2 seasons. This is just a month after they canceled Caprica the Galactica spin off. I'm a huge Star gate fan and this totally sucks. So next year will be the first time in 14 years that we don't have a stargate series. They will still play the second half of the season but apparently it'll end in a cliffhanger with no resolution. I hate when series end without a proper conclusion. They did that to Stargate sg 1 as well but luckily there was a dvd movie that tied up all the loose ends. I can only hope that's what happens this time as well. On a side note the stargate franchise was the first thing i had bonded over with Rob and Nickle. Yeah its a sad day. Oh well at least the syfy channel plays a lot of wrestling. Yeah that makes sense.

Saturday is over

Damn i like getting out early on a Saturday. Good times. Already finished my show preparation and I'm showered and cleaned up and just waiting for my wonderful family to get home for a bit of grocery shopping. Wasn't such a bad day i guess. Gonna relax after that and have some tacos. Good times indeed.

Friday, December 17, 2010

just chilling

Last night was pretty cool. Rob came by and we took Diana to her final ballet class of 2010. While she was in class we went back to Rob's place and watched the first episode of the live action tick show. I hadn't seen it since it first aired. It was pretty cool. I went home and watched some Christmas cartoons with Diana and when Kath came home we had manwich and home made fries. I love my friends and family.

R.i.p George

Wow just realized that its been 9 years since George Harrison passed away. He was probably my favorite Beatle. I admit i knew nothing about him until he was in The Travelling Willburys. Was just watching some old clips on You Tube. I guess there was a tribute concert a few years back. Just saw a clip of Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton singing the song Something. It actually gave me chills. Man now i feel a little sad.

technically would have gotten a raise

So December 27th marks nine years at my current job. Quite the feat since i guess by now you know I'm not a fan of my job. I had my review yesterday and it was pretty good. If my company was still doing raises i would have gotten one. Yes 2 years ago the american company we work with decided when they renewed our contract that they wouldn't be doing raises. So that was awesome. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. I wasn't supossed to be there almost a decade. It was supossed to be temporary. I guess I might as well make it a full decade. Hooray!

Fast 5--Seriously?

As a host of a movie/tv oriented pod cast i have to keep up to date of upcoming releases and try and have an open mind. Keeping that in mind i just watched the trailer for fast 5 or fast and the furious 5 if you will. All i have to say is really? was that sequel actually necessary? Was there a lot of unanswered questions from the other 4? I guess Vin Diesel has to eat. I wonder if they'll drive really fast in cars. Oh well.

Happy Birthday

A very happy birthday to our good friend Nickle. Here's wishing u many.many more. Oh and i'm glad you aren't going to Michigan. I would miss you--plus who would yell at me about Dewey Cox dvd's?

Time to get sick

I am feeling totally shitty today. I'm achy and i can't stop coughing. I'm such a dumb ass though. I was going to go into work. Kath had to convince me to stay home. One day won't make much of a difference i suppose. I get extra pay at Christmas time so it'll make up for me missing work today. Anyhow that's where I'm at. Laying on the couch, eating soup and feeling just awful. Yay for Monday!

Saturday woes

Just want to take this space to thank Rob and our friend Ken for being cool. Last night we recorded an episode of get your geek on. It ended up going til midnight. I blame my day job. Every Saturday without fail it gets dead and i get sent home an hour to an hour and a half early early. I always take that as a reward for putting up with the shit i do. So its been that way for at least 6 months. So i figure ok I'll ask the guys to record after work. I'll get out early and we'll get an early start. Yeah that didn't happen. So despite it being even deader than usual, i wasn't allowed to leave until after 7:30. I think between 6 and 7;30 i may have taken a whole 3 calls. The people around me were just as busy.I was pissed. I think we finally got started recording after 9. So thanks Rob and Ken for putting up with me and the late start. I really appreciate it

Bored and loving it

man i love boring days. No joke. I'll take that over any day where i'm getting hollered at by customers. All I'm doing today is preparing for Sundays show. Our friend Ken is gonna be on with us again. Oh and i did some dishes as well. Also cool? No bills in the mail today just flyers. I'm totally on board for that as well. I'm simple, it doesn't take much to put me in a good mood. Gonna do a bit of Christmas shopping tonight--and get some comic books as well. Life is good--until i go back to work tomorrow.

Beard

Yesterday i made the most important decision i have made this year. I decided that because its been so cold, its time to grow back my winter beard. Nothing like a big ass beard to keep my face warm on those cold winter days It'll help a bit. I hate being cold. It sucks. That is all.

Monday, December 6, 2010

Blue Monday

This is sure to be a craptacular day. Kath had to be to work super early so I was walking Diana in today. Looked outside and it was a bit windy with snow on the ground. SO went back upstairs to wake up Diana. AS i looked out the window i saw the garbage truck. Why did this suck? Cause i hadn't put the garbage out yet. It was too windy to do it last night. So i ran outside like a madman in my going to sleep pants to put the garbage out. I just made it. The truck never comes this early any more.

I walked Diana to school and didn't really feel the cold until i was on my way home. Now I'm on my way to work. I really don't wanna go. Its going to be busy and i know i'm not going to be able to find a seat. Oh well. Let's go get this crappy 10 hour shift over with. See ya!

Finally the tree of geekiness is up

Oh yeah our Christmas tree is finally up and trimmed. We put the tree up last week but last night we finally put up all the ornaments. As a bonus Kath bought a new ornament. She had a coupon for 5 dollars off at the Hallmark store. So we picked up a miniature star wars set - Boba Fett and Han solo frozen in carbonite. Might i add its our 6th Harrison Ford ornament--3 Han Solo and 3 Indiana Jones. Sadly no Regarding Henry ornaments yet.

Printer cat

A quick funny observation about my cat Merlin. Any time we print something he gets really excited and runs over to watch and listen and just stare at it until our work is done printing. It's pretty funny and makes me smile

Rambling on a Friday

First blog of December! Yee ha!Hasn't been so bad so far. We started getting a tiny bit of snow the other day. Poor Buffalo. Hollie has been posting pictures on her facebook and they got hit massively hard. There's so much snow over there. Her car was completely buried. Not so cool.

Man i love days off. I enjoy the lack of stress. I will take household chores any day over screaming assholes. Spent yesterday doing laundry and dishes and writing up stories for the show. I couldn't be happier. Well actually if Kath were here that would make it even more awesome. We've both been working opposite shifts and we don't have any days off together anymore. Not a lot of time to visit with friends and family. Most of our friends and family have been cool about it. Lets just say most of them and end it there.

I have big plans this afternoon. I'm gonna try and catch up on episodes of Caprica. Canada got the final 5 episodes months ahead of the United states. Gonna try and get a few more in today. Tonight when Kath gets home we're gonna do some grocery shopping and perhaps s get more christmas presents for Miss Diana. Our kid not the ballet teacher.

Have a great day everyone

Monday

My day was awful. It was super busy from start to finish. Ten hours of the worst customers ever. If that wasn't bad enough my lunch got moved to 1:30. So i had 2 breaks in 4 hours. My lunch is usually at 2:30. I prefer 2:30. When i get back to work at 3:00 i have exactly half of my shift left. Also i get to go with Kath to pick up Diana at school and then she drives me back to work. I didn't even know my lunch got moved to 1:30 until 1:25. And it's gonna be like that for 2 weeks. I've had the same lunch since July so i don't know why all of a sudden it had to change. It especially sucked that i still had 6 hours of work after lunch during todays shit storm of business. I also got stuck on a call until 8;20 tonight by an indian fellow who kept yelling no into the phone no matter what i said. So that was awesome. Now i need to relax. Kath already fell asleep and i put Diana top bed so i guess I'm on my own tonight. Such is life i suppose.

Bye Sunday

Well another Sunday has come and gone and now its time for bed. Diana was so good all day. She made ornaments for the tree and practiced printing. She even let me sleep in--my only day to sleep in i might add.

After 4 weeks we finally aired a live get your geek on. Thanks Rob for making it happen. Man i don't wanna work tomorrow. I am not looking forward to a barrage of stupid questions and comments from customers. I'd prefer to stay in bed all day. Oh well it's nice to dream. Ok off to bed. Fingers crossed that monday doesn't suck.

My Thanksgiving

Last night Kath made a fantastic thanksgiving dinner. We invited a bunch of people over and ate and watched scott pilgrim vs the world. Damn my wife can cook. Not bad for fake Thanksgiving. Man i love turkey and pumpkin flavored deserts. Good times.

Actors in green sweaters suck balls

Another shitty day of moronic customer complaints is over. My favorite complaint of the day? An older lady called in and bitched the commercials our company puts out. Her biggest complaint was the green sweater worn by an actor in the commercials. She was seriously pissed off! She stated the sweater annoyed her. Seriously? You're calling in on a Saturday morning to bitch about that? Whats wrong with these people.

Anyhow home now and waiting for the family to arrive. I'm working on show stuff as well. Hopefully our show will air this week. Fingers crossed.

charlie brown thanksgiving

Ok the other night Diana and i watched Charlie Browns thanksgiving. It may have been the 30th time I've seen it. Sure miss the dolly madison commercials. That's an inside joke for anyone that may have watched a charlie brown show in the 70's and 80's. Anyhow there were some things i never questioned about the show until now. Some observations if you will

1) man charlie Brows friends were assholes. They all invited themselves over for dinner and then had the nerve to be pissed off at ol' chuck because he didn't make them a turkey. What 10 year old kid knows how to make a turkey? I would have been all "you will eat your f-ing toast and jelly beans and you will like it dammit."

2) so i think i finally realized why snoopy sleeps on the roof of his dog house. His house is crammed full of ovens and tables and chairs and decorations and what not. What a dumb dog. Wait i just realized, snoopy is good enough to make all that toast for charlie browns get together but isn't allowed to sleep in the brown house? I guess Charlie Brown is an ass too

3) snoopy is kind of an a hole to. Apparently a dog has a gi-normous turkey in his house that he shares with woodstock but neglects to mention this to charlie brown who is forced to serve popcorn and jelly beans to his friends. Where does a dog get money for a turkey? I bet he stole it.

4) wait a minute--woodstock is eating turkey? Isn't he a bird? Is that canibalism?

5) snoopy isn't allowed to go to grandma's house? I think pig pen was there and he smelled like dog shit all the time. Thats real fair.

Holiday party

L ast night we attended Kath's work Christmas party. It was pretty descent. WE last went 2 years ago. I still haven't made it to one of my staff parties. 8 years in a row! Why start now. The food was pretty good. Pasta and meatballs and chicken and potatoes. The highlight of the night was when Kath won the last door prize--a lap top computer. She's been wanting one for a long time. So that was pretty cool. Not so cool? Rob trying to give me a lap dance. It was a fun night though. I can't believe its a month until Christmas though. Wtf?

Dink

I spoke to a customer today and his first name was dink. Thats what he was as well. That is all.

Gobble Gobble

Happy thanksgiving to all my american friends or as we call it in Canada-Thursday.

Monday, November 22, 2010

Oh monday's why do u suck

Sure glad Monday is almost over. What a gloomy, rainy day. Work sucked and the weather was disgusting. A friend of mine was let go today as well. That really sucked.

Just waiting for Kath to get home. Gonna have pumpkin pancakes for dinner and watch a little tv.

So our good friend Amy helped us with the show last night. Kath was working so Amy filled in. Unfortunately the show didn't go out on the internet. Rob was still able to record it and will run the show at some point this week. As soon as he said the show wasn't going out i completely froze up and my mind went blank. I recovered during the first commercial break and we were able to record a pretty good show. Kath is back next week so looking forward to that. Anyhow enough about my shitty monday. It's time to rock. Kath is home. See ya.

Welcome back Huey!

As i stated earlier, when i was in Ohio i picked up the new Huey Lewis and The News cd called Soulsville. I've been a big fan of his since 1984 when the Sports album was kicking ass on the charts. Huey hasn't put out an album since 2001. Thats a whole 9 years! What the hell Huey? Anyhow the new cd is an album of covers from stax records. It's not bad. With the exception of the song Respect Yourself (previously covered by Bruce Willis) I hadn't heard of any of the songs. Unfortunately as good as the album is it probably won't make a dent in the charts. Thats a shame.

Proud of Diana

Friday i went to Diana's school for parent teacher interviews. I'm proud to say she did awesome. Her teacher said she loves having Diana in her class and she is doing awesome when it comes to sounding out words and trying to read. Her math is great as well. All i have to say is thank God she takes after Kath in the smarts department.

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Sunday was a day of relaxation. Didn't do to much. Cleaned up a bit. We got some bad news from Rob. The show didn't record properly. So we aired an episode from April. Oh well. Watched a bunch of tv when kath came home and then called it a night. I was not looking forward to a full week of work.

I'm a dumb ass

Here is why i am a dumb ass. I forgot to book Saturday off. So had to cut vacation short so i could go back to work and get yelled at. I suck. And so did work. After work we went and pre recorded get your geek on. Kath had to work on Sunday so no new show this week. Such is life.

vacation day 5; the long road home

It was Friday and it was time to unfortunately come home. We got up and walked to a diner that was about 2 minutes away on foot. I had a turkey panini that had an egg and french fries and coleslaw on it. As weird as that sounds it was actually pretty awesome. We then traveled to best buy where i finally picked up the new Huey Lewis and the news cd- Soulsville. For some reason no one in Canada had it for sale and that was the 3rd place in America i had checked out to purchase it. It was on sale as well! SO that made me happy. We took a bit of a drive as well and checked out Ulana's church.

At 4:00 it was time to hit the road. We decided we would come back next year. The ride wasnt too bad and we had a really good time. Ulana's family is awesome and it was cool getting to know her a little better.

On the way home we stopped for dinner at White Castle. Yup thee restaurant that harold and kumar and neil patrick harris had traveled too. We had to check it out. The burgers were cute and little.

We arrived home around 10. Diana was awesome all the way home. We had an awesome vacation and definately next year i'm gonna book the same days off as Kath and hopefully go back to Ohio. Alas my vacation was over. Thanks to Ulana andher family for putting us up and showing us around. I had a great time.

Vacation day 4; Amish town

Thursday in Ohio. It was another fun filled day. We got up pretty early after a restful sleep. The big plan for the day? All you can eat pizza buffet at a place called cici's. As if that weren't awesome enough if we went between 2 and 4 it was 2.99 each that's 2 dollars and 99 cents for all you can eat pizza. I'm a fat guy so i was in. We had some time to kill. Ulana took us out in the country to an amish community. We took a look at a cheese factory which was cool. Lot's of cheese and fudge samples. We then went to a little general store and took a look around. Had a nice drive out in the country as well. Saw ice cream being made.

Then--the main event--all you can eat pizza. It was amazing. All kinds of pizza. Buffalo chicken pizza, barbeque pizza, macoroni and cheese pizza and a massive dessert bar as well. I think i ate 14 pieces on my own. Yup diet starts Monday. We also visited a Walmart where Diana got justice league stickers.

Had another nice dinner where Kath helped Ulana with pulled pork sandwiches. The good year blimp flew over Ulanas house. We also got to visit with Ulanas brother Bill. We had a nice conversation again as well. Such a nice day. Terrible sleep though. Had a bad stomach ache--gee wonder why--and it caused me to have bad dreams. So that was nice.

Only in America

On the way to Ohio we saw a shop that sold some interesting items. Click on the picture to see what the store was selling. Wow.

Vacation day 3; Ohio bound

It was Wednesday morning. We had finally packed up the car and we were headed off to Ohio. It was to be at least a 4 and a half hour journey. We were worried that Diana would be bored the whole way there. To our surprise not once did she say she was bored. It was cool. Rachel had lent us her portable dvd player so Diana could watch some movies. It was a really nice drive. It took about 2 hours to get to Erie Pa. We stopped there because there is an awesome all you can eat buffet there called the golden Coral. We had discovered that restaurant 6 years earlier when we went to Cleveland to see Springsteen. Man did we pig out. They had everything from pizza to mini burgers and tacos and a salad bar and a sundae bar. It was pretty awesome. After lunch we drove non stop until we got to Ulana's house. We arrived around 4:30.

We hung out for a bit with Ulana and her husband Rusty and their 2 sons Daniel and Jacob. They also had a really nice dog named Aspen. She was such a friendly dog that even Diana liked. After we sat and talked for awhile Ulana took us to a cool comic book store called heroic adventures that was about a half mile from her house. The store was great and the owner gave us a tour of the store. I picked up some books and we left him some get your geek on business cards.

Went back to Ulanas and had an amazing steak dinner. We sat up and talked until about 11:00. I got to hear lots of stories about Kath and Ulana in high school. By 11 we were all pretty tired so we called it a night. We slept in a very comfortable bed in a nice guest room. Soon we had all passed out after a long day

Vacation day 2; Megamind good times

Day 2 was more of the same. Caught up on a lot of tv with Kstew. WE picked Diana up from school and went to Niagara Falls. Diana was going to her 2nd movie in a theater. The movie was Megamind-- an animated tale about a super villain that becomes a super hero. It featured the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt. It was pretty awesome. Diana was good as gold which bodes well for future movies.

We also stopped at Pulp comics where i picked up an issue of Vanishing Point. I was also able to obtain a copy of the new Bryan Adams acoustic cd.

We went home and were soon joined by Rob and Nickle and Anthony. We had some dinner and watched Glee. We packed our bags and got to bed early. Tomorrow would be our first Stewart family vacation.

vacation day 1

I had an amazing week. I as already in a great mood after seeing Dennis and Lisa and that was just the beginning. Sunday was a bit of a downer because we weren't able to do a show. Such is life i guess.

SO I had booked off a week from work. Kath already had the week off so this was a chance to spend time together. We planned to drive up to Ohio to visit Kath's longtime friend Ulana and her family. They've been friends since high school. I've only met her a handful of times. The first time i met her was about 10 minutes before i got married!
We planned to go up Wednesday and come back Friday. I am an idiot and forgot to book Saturday off. So i had to come back so i could work that day. We would take it easy on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday Kath and i caught up on a lot of tv while Diana was in school Did some chores. That was about it. I like lazy days. Anything is better than my usual getting yelled at by customer days. I do enjoy my red neck less days. I was happy just to be hanging out with Kath. Her new schedule has been weird. Anyhow that was just day one of an awesome week to come.

Old friends and karaokee

I had a fantastic night Saturday night. I was invited out by my good friends Dennis and Lisa to go to karaokee. I hadn't seen them in about 3 years. I've known Dennis since the kfc days back in 1988. We've been buddies ever since. It sucks that we haven't seen in each other in so long but we all work long hours and we all have families. We used to go to karaokee all the time when we were younger. Of course in those days we drank very heavy as well. I haven't attempted to sing karaokee in 5 years since before Diana was born. Unfortunately we couldn't find a babysitter so Kath stayed home with Diana.

Man it was like no time had gone by at all. We talked a lot about old times. I will say its scary singing sober. I sang a couple of Tom Petty songs and i saw you first by John Mellencamp. Before we said goodnight we promised to not let 3 years go by before we hang out again.

Raindrops suck

Holy crap could the weather be any crappier? Not only is it freezing out but again its non stop rain. I was planning on walking to the comic book store but i don't think its gonna let up any time soon. It seems like it rains every day now. Whats the deal with that? Not a fan of being wet. Some might say that sucks.

Rob was actually kind enough to take me to comics. Thank you man. Just gonna chill out until 3 when i have to pick up Diana. Gonna get some groceries with Kath when she's done work. Ok gonna go vaccuum and try and watch the movie predator. Have a great day

Trick Or Treat

I forgot to talk about trick or treating 2010. It went really well. Man halloween starts and ends earlier every year. Kids started coming early before it was even dark at 6 o clock. It seems it was over an hour later. We gave out comics courtesy of pulp comics. We ran out an hour into halloween. Nickle came over and went with me to take Diana out. Diana was a witch and Nickle was Boba Fett. I just wore a spiderman t shirt. As usual Diana got bored after 5 houses. We went through our whole complex and called it a night. We had a good time and the kid is already planning next years costume. Maybe trick or treaters will come at 5 next year.

Hello November

Wow 5 days since a blog. Here is my first november blog. Not feeling so good today. I have a really bad sore throat.Pretty cold out as well. Work was rough so far this week. Yeah the customers were as crabby as ever. I realized i hate the phrase "thanks for nothing." Heard it a few times this week and its a stupid thing to say especially after you feel you have done something on a call. Ignorant inbred bastards. I'm just taking it easy today. Trying to come up with show ideas and stuff. I'll pick Diana up at 3 and then she has ballet at 6:30. So just a wonderful regular day featuring no screaming customers. I love it. Just sitting here blogging and listening to Weezer. Good times.

happy halloween?

Wow day didn't start off so good. I woke up sick. Sore throat. It feels like i swallowed sand. Also i totally got daylight savings time wrong. It's next week. So i set my clock wrong and got up later than i wanted. Didn't get to spend any time with Kath before she went to work. I suck.

Happy free candy day!

Happy halloween everybody! I'm looking forward to trick or treating with Diana and eating some candy! We're giving out comic books to trick or treaters this year. I'' cap the evening of with the halloween episode of Get Your Geek on. Plus its day light savings time so i get an extra hour of sleep. Good Times!

Diana's Big Dress up Day

Just got back from dropping Diana off at school. It's the Friday before halloween so all the kids are in costume. Later today Diana's class will go on a halloween parade and get a halloween party. Diana is dressed like a witch. Another kid in her class was inspector Gadget and there was even a mini hell boy. There were some really cool costumes. Anyhow gonna chill out on the couch and watch some tv. Gonna work on some show stuff as well. Have a great day

Pumpkin Patch good times

Tuesday i got to stay home from work and go with Diana and her class to the Pumpkin farm. It was a farm out in Welland called Bry anne's farm. I arrived at her school around noon to board a bus. Man that bus was uncomfortable. It was pretty cool. They had a corn maze and a hay maze that we all went through. Very muddy though. Had to wash my shoes after wards. There was a hay rise as well out to a huge pumpkin patch. At the pumpkin patch all the kids got to pick out their own Pumpkin for haloween. Diana was really good but on the bus ride home she decided she was to cool to sit with me and sat with some of her friends. That was ok though. Oh and i found it funny that everyone was calling me Mr Stewart. That makes me laugh.

The gang in my house!

Yesterday Kath hosted a party for our friend Bev and her daughter who are selling discover kids toys. Unfortunately i couldn't be there as i of course was at my lame ass job. I did get to swing by for a bit on my lunch break. Everyone at the party was cool. Rach and Becky were here and our friends Kim and Trish. We hadn't seen Trish in 9 years since i quit my donut diner job.We last saw Kim briefly in the parking lot of price chopper about a year after Diana was born. It was cool seeing them again. We all used to hang out in a little group when i worked at the diner. We saw movies practically every Sunday afternoon and they helped keep my sanity on a nightly basis. I used to get a lot of dunk assholes on my shift and they were always there to cheer me up. They were even at my wedding. We definately have to hang out again soon. There has even been mention of maybe attending karaokee some night which would be really cool.

Older than the teachers

Ok man i am feeling old. Dropped Diana off to school and for the second day in arow she has a substitute teacher. Now I've noticed something at her school. All the teachers are young and (sorry to be blunt) hot. The teacher she had yesterday looked like actress Amanda Peet. When i was a kid all my teachers were massively old and close to retirement age. I don't think i had a young teacher until at least grade 7 or 8. Now I'm older than every teacher at her Diana's school. I gotta tell you if the teachers had been that good looking when i was a kid i might have looked forward to school. Instead i got the old lady who said my name so bad that i never wrote "Jay" down on a paper again. Ok old man Jay is gonna lay down on the couch now before he breaks a hip.. Have a great day.

WTF Billy Joel?

Ok anybody that knows me knows I am a huge fan of Billy Joel. I've liked his music since 1980 when i bought my first 45' single "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me." In 1984 my parents took me to my first concert- Billy Joel on his Innocent Man tour. I've seen him numerous times since. I love all his albums. However he hasn't released a new album of songs since 1993. He's put out 2 singles and a classical album. Ok I don't have an issue with that. Classical music isn't my cup of tea but at least he was trying something different. What grinds my gears is that every year there seems to be a new greatest hits of his material. I just read there's a new one coming out in November. That's an awful lot of greatest hits cd's for a guy that hasn't had a new cd in 17 years. Come on man put out a new cd already. He's still touring but I've avoided going --tickets have been massively expensive and I'm not spending a million dollars to hear the same songs over and over again. A couple of years ago he tried an experiment that i thought was really cool. Since he didn't have a new album to promote he was playing a lot of album tracks and stuff he hadn't played in years. There were still some hits but they were mixed in pretty good with the other tracks. He had even opened the shows with Piano Man-- a song he had been closing the shows with since 1986. It was so cool. I couldn't wait for the show to get to my area. Yeah the experiment lasted maybe 2 or 3 shows. Within the week the shows were back to 99 percent greatest hits and maybe a rare song or 2.

So to sum up I still like his music a lot but he needs to stop living on past success. Other musicians his age have continued to put out awesome music and new cd's--I'm looking at you Bruce Springsteen. And come on Mr Joel--really another greatest hits? Dude seriously? Ok I am off my soap box.

Oh great garbage can lid

So I was walking Diana to school and say a grey garbage can lid near her school on the road--much like the one we lost the other day. Later in the day Kath and i went to pick up Diana from school and the lid was still there. Yoink. Garbage can lid problem solved! I am a sneaky m f'er.

Insensitive Jay

Did i ever mention i like days off? Work hasn't been too bad this week. I can really only remember one bad call. An old man kept telling me i was insensitive because i told him he was past due and might be turned off. I wasn't trying to be a dick about it. He told me a date he could make a payment and i said i didn't know if he would be shut off before that. He freaked out and wouldn't let me talk and kept saying i was insensitive. By the end of the call i guess i was. I asked how i was being insensitive and he said it was because i had mentioned the interruption. I said that wasn't being insensitive. I added that its my job to mention what i did when a customer is past due. I could actually be in trouble if i didn't tell hi. He again yelled and said i was being sensitive to which i replied--no if i had said i don't care when you' make your payment then that's being insensitive. Yeah it went to a supervisor but that's ok cause he wouldn't listen to the supervisor either.

Man someone didn't want me to get to work yesterday. The power was out on the main street where my work is. So no stop lights. It took about ten minutes to cross the road. When i got to the front door there was a note stating that we couldn't use that door for 3 days. So i had to trek around to the back of the building to get in. Of course when i got in someone was sitting in my regular seat. I know we aren't supossed to have assigned seating but I'd been sitting there all year with no problems. One new person is sitting in our row so because of that everyone else is sitting in new seats. So i couldn't sit with Trudy or Deb. Luckily i got to sit with the group i sit with on Saturdays. Actually because i had to use the back door all day i got to see my friend Stacey which was cool.

So not at work today. Gonna think about something cool to talk about and i will be back later. Have a great day.

Holy crap it's been a year.

Last night we celebrated a milestone. One year ago we started "Get Your Geek On." I can't believe its been on the air for a year. It's been really fun. Thanks to all of you who have listened. Thanks to all the guests who have been cool about being interviewed and what not. Thanks to Rob for allowing our geek rambling every week. Thanks to my awesome wife as well for helping me to put on the show. Can't wait to see what the next year will bring for the show.

Why is my stomach large?

I realized that i have a serious addiction. I need help. I am addicted to pumpkin flavored snacks. There are plenty of them this time of year. Everything from pumpkin donuts at Tim Hortons to Pumpkin muffins at 7-11 to Pumpkin shakes at Macdonalds. Not to mention pumpkin blizzards at Dairy Queen. October needs to be over before i get even fatter. Maybe i'll sneak out for a pumpkin donut. Tim Hortons is 2 minutes away!

Work or no work,Mondays always suck.

It's Monday and despite not working today it is already starting off shitty. I woke up feeling sick. Diana has been sick for awhile and Kath is to. I knew my time was coming soon. It's great that i don't work today so i can take it easy and rest. I did have to wake up and take Diana to school. No problem there. I came home and the garbage has been picked up. What sucks about that? Our garbage lid is gone. Lovely. I walked around the parking lot looking for it. It's gone and that sucks. It may have ended up in the garbage truck with the garbage. Who knows. Happy Monday!!

Awesome day with my awesome Stewart family

Yesterday was quite the awesome day! We got up bright and early to go to the buffalo comic con. Its a nice little convention we try and get to every year. We hadn't gone in 2 years. Everyone knows the saga of me and the passport issues last year. We actually started going to the con the day after we got married in 2001. Wow 9 years. It was actually our first con. I can always find great deals at this one. There's plenty of guys selling comics for a dollar or 50 cents. It's great getting books for that cheap. It allows me to check out comics i normally wouldn't have purchased. I found 23 comics for about 15 dollars. It was awesome. There were more people than usual dressed in super hero costumes. Like i said its a smaller con so not a lot of people dress up. We stayed there for a couple of hours.

Lunch time was also awesome. We visited a pizza place called pizza junction that was actually featured on an episode of diners drive-ins and dives on the food network. We ordered this really awesome beef on wick pizza that had roast beef and a horse radish sauce. Man it was awesome. We wanna go back again to sample some of their other pizzas. Diana got 1 slice that was bigger than her whole plate.

I booked the next day off work as well just because. No feeling of dread the whole day. It was great. Thanks Kath and Diana for such a great day!

Trick ot treat indeed!

so I'm happy. I get to take Diana trick or treating after all. She has been on the fence about it lately. She has been saying she didn't want to go out because she is scared of Halloween costumes. So what changed her mind? Two things actually. She found a costume she liked--a witch. So we bought her the costume from the super store. The second thing that had a hand in changing her mind--she got a Mr. Potato Head trick or treat bucket from Macdonalds. On Halloween i will take her trick or treating and then we will do the halloween episode of get your geek on. Can't wait!

Cool nerdy wedding

Sunday we attended the wedding reception of our friends mike and Suzy. We couldn't make the actual wedding because Kath had to work Sunday morning. She never asked for Sunday off because on her new work schedule she isn't suppossed to work on Sundays. Oh well what can you do? Anyhow we at least got to go to the dinner and dance. It was really awesome. So Mike and Suzy are nerds like us. When the wedding party was being introduced they walked in wearing star wars masks while star wars music played. Nickle was in the wedding party and she walked in wearing a Boba Fett mask. It almost makes me want to plan another wedding with a super hero theme.

The dinner was great. Seeing as how it was Thanksgiving weekend the food was Thanksgiving type food. Turkey, Ham, Mashed potatoes, the works. Music was provided by our good friend Rob. It was a great time.

There was also a slide show about the couple. There was a section in it about Suzy liking cats. Why am i bringing this up? Our cat Merlin had his picture on the screen. Suzy was the original owner of Merlin. Haven't been that proud since Diana made the slides at Kath's Christmas party. I teared up a little because watching the slides made me realize that someday Diana will grow up and get married. My little girl.

Anyhow just wanna thank Suzy and Mie for the invite. It really was a great reception. Congrats to you guys. You guys rock !

Tuesday stuff

I'm sitting here listening to the black crowes and eating toast. Yup I'm living the good life. I got in from work a little while ago. Was just putting the basement back together. The insulation guys were here one last time today to insulate the basement. They are done. Thanh God. No more pulling stuff out of rooms. My day kinda sucked but i wasnt in too much of a bad mood. I got October 26th off so i can go with Diana's class to the pumpkin patch. Should be fun.
Just waiting for Kath to come home and gonna watch some tv. I will write soon.

Turkey-rific!

Just a quick happy thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends and family. Kath is american so she tells everyone its practice Thanksgiving. Diana has started saying that to. Crazy kid. We're going to my mom's house for dinner today. Can't wait for turkey.

Unexpected weight loss

So apparently i lost 3 and a half pounds this week. Why is that odd? I havent been following my diet at all. As a matter of fact i have had cake and donuts everyday this week. I also havent been drinking my water. I guess i do get extra walking in every day. I also eat a lot of pumpkin donuts. So thanks cake/donut diet.

See ya big head!

So just read that Phil Collins is retiring. My luck is getting better all the time! I'm gonna miss those album covers with his big head. Not.

Friday good times

Just had a great day. Diana Had the long thanksgiving weekend off so i got to sleep in. Thats a good day right there. I put her bedroom back together. It looks better than ever. The insulation guys have to come back on Tuesday to work in the basement. I have to clean out the laundry room but after that day they won't need to come back and our house will be warmer in winter. So i work tomorrow and then i'm off another 2 days. I love days off. Have i ever mentioned that? We're going to a wedding Sunday so we pre recorded our show tonight. Nicole and Rob came over to watch some tv. So the day was descent.

Hampton Roads can bite me

Well work has screwed me again. So we take calls for about 9 different markets. * of the markets are similar. There's one market--Hampton roads which is turning into a huge pain in the ass. So we have a 50 dollar credit limit we can use if we have to. Hampton Roads has different credit codes than the other markets. SO we are constantly getting the credits wrong. To brag a little but i went a year without getting a credit code wrong. Then In August i started getting whats known as batch corrections. If you use the wrong code then the credit has to be reapplied. Since August i have had 8 batch corrections. So because of this i was written up and there is now a note to my file. My first such note in 9 years of working there. The next step will be corrective action. Fuck that. My solution? No one in hampton roads is ever getting a credit from me again even if they deserve it. I'm not getting fired over a credit. Screw that.

Work was Hoth cold

Day 2 of the big insulation project.I'll be glad when its done. Glad I've been at work when the project has been going on. Speaking of work it sucked beyond belief yesterday. It was freezing. We were all wearing our jackets. I couldnt feel my feet or hands. It didnt help that i had walked Diana to school in the rain and my feet were completely soaked. I had to wait 5 hours to go home and change my socks. So that was fun. Anyhow I'm off to go to work again right now. I'm off for 2 days starting tomorrow so just looking forward to relaxing. Anyhow I'll talk to you all soon.

Craptacular week of crap

Monday. Man i want this week to be over. It rained all day and it was beyond crazy busy at work all day. I'm sure the next 2 days will suck ass due to the big insulation project. I think the week won't improve until Thursday. We're recording our show on Friday. Sunday we are going to the wedding of our friends Suzie and Mike. I just have to experience a few shitty days to get to the awesome ones. Son of a bitch i wish time travel was real. I would skip over the next 2 days. That remote control of Adam Sandler would come in really handy right about now as well. Oh well. Hell week here i come

A pain in the ass ending to September

So just got word that the complex is changing the insulation in the units. I realize this is a good thing and it will lower the heating bills in the winter. Here's the part that is a pain in the ass. The access to the attic is in Diana's closet. So i have to move everything from her closet as well as the contents of most of her room. The workers need 2/3rds of the room to be empty. I will need to mover her book case and bed to. I started moving stuff today and my bedroom and spare room look like something out of the show hoarders. Not looking to moving it all back either. I don't even know when they will be here. I'm hoping Monday when I'm at work. I guess they will be back to work in the basement also. Yay. Oh well what can you do. September is over today and tomorrow is the start of a brand new month. Have a good one everybody. See ya in October!

feeling crappy just in time for work!

Man its days like this i wish i could go back to bed. I woke up feeling just awful. My nose refuses to stop running, my stomach hurts like a son of a bitch and i feel like i havent slept in a week. Hmmmm do i wanna go to work and get yelled at by rednecks for 10 hours now? I guess i have to if i wanna continue to have a place to live in. Stupid rent. Stupid work. Stupid runny nose. Oh well i'm gonna have to suck it up i literally have to leave in a minute. Have a good day everyone. If i survive i will be back with more fun filled blogs.

Drinking with the kids again.

So for the second saturday in a row i got drunk with Kath and her friends. Thats real funny in itself cause i rarely drink anymore. We drove with Nickle and Rob and went to Simon's house for a cook out. Simon is a cool guy who works with Kath and Nickle and has been on our show. Amy was also there and Johnny and some other people from Kath's work. I drank a whopping 4 beers and that started laughing uncontrollably when Nickle was singing family guy songs and quoting Anchorman. There was also 5 cool dogs there and now more than ever i want one. There was plenty of good food as well.Oh and with the exception of rob and Kath i was old enough to be the dad of all the party guests. I am very old, It was really a great time. This week though i have to get back on track with my diet so no more beers. Anyhow thanks for a great time Simon and Nickle we must learn some more family guy songs for next time we are blitzzed.

Back to the real world

Ugh. In a couple minutes i have to drag my ass to work I'm really tired. Feels like i hit the pillow, blinked and now its time to go to work. I hope its dead in there today. I really do. It probably won't be. I had a fantastic weekend. I'm gonna blog later about the weekend as soon as i can actually feel like I'm awake. Man its gonna be a long one. Ah phooey. I have to stay positive. I'm positive work is gonna suck. Can't wait to come home for lunch and see kath. Seeing her at lunch and walking Diana to school are my 2 favorite parts of my day now. Oh well. Maybe the 10 hours will go by fast. Yeah and monkeys might fly out of my butt. I'll write more later. Have a good one everybody.

Bummed but surviving

So last week i mentioned i had gone on a job interview at kaths work. Sadly it turns out i didn't get the job. I'm a little bummed but it's probably for the best. With my current work schedule i can walk Diana in to school every morning. We would have needed a baby sitter 5 times a week and my schedule would be changing all the time. I wouldn't have been able to do Get Your Geek on live every week either. So maybe in the future i will get another opportunity for something better. I hope.

Danny Glover was right

So last Saturday i did something I hadn't done in about 15 years. I went to a strip club. I actually went with a group of friends and some of them were female. Amy had invited Kath and Nickle and some people from their work. Ok i was curious about going to a strip club with my wife and her friends so i agreed to go. I will admit i used to go to strip clubs with my friends when i was younger. Beer was cheap and i was a horny teen ager. As i got older though i became bored and stopped going. Anyhow back to the present. We met up at the sundowner in Niagara falls. This was going to be interesting. So we walked in and curiosity immediately turned to annoyance. There was a 15 dollar cover charge--for each person! What the hell? Back in my day we were never charged a cover charge, It was free. We paid anyhow because we had already agreed to meet Amy inside. Going inside was a huge mistake. It was wall to wall people--no seats and sticky floors. Yeah it was gross. We tried to make the best out of it. I was thirsty and got a can of diet coke. First time i ever paid 4.75 for a can of pop. It sucked. We were all having a shitty time so we left after an hour and went to a bar called taps. Taps turned out to be cool and we all had a couple of beers and joked around. So the moral of the story is i am too old for strip clubs. To quote Danny Glover from the lethal weapon series "i'm to old for this shit."

anal and semen

what another fun filled day in the trenches. Nothing but wall to wall assholes all day on the phone. I spoke to some characters. I spoke to a screaming asian lady. She sounded like an asian lady version of screetch from Saved by the bell. I swear I'm not making this up but her husbands name was semen. I kid you not. I bet he can handle himself in a sticky situation.

The most ridiculous call of my day was actually my last call of the day. It was a doozy. It was a half an hour long and exremely annoying. A guy by the name of anil(yup pronounced anal it was a real good day for names) called in to dispute the fact that we were charging him for phone service--for a year! We started him on a phone plan in september of 2009. He claims he never asked for phone service but kept paying the bills and didnt question the amount owed on the bills. He claims he never read any of the bills for a year that clearly showed phone charges. We have a policy that you have 30 days to dispute any charges you don't agree with not a year. We wouldn't credit him anything and took down my information to file a complaint to take us to court. Really? Are you gonna file under stupidity? What a joke.
So that was my work day. I'm off for 2 days so gonna take it easy. Couch here i come!!

Tuesday blues

Just got back from walking Diana to school. I'm so tired. Nothing 10 hours of work wont fix. I don't know how I'm gonna do it today. I'll get by i suppose.

Kinda sad today. Kath pointed out that our cat Hesh is starting to get around slowly and that he's not getting out of the way as fast as he once did. I realize he's 16 years old but until now he really hasnt shown any signs of aging. He was still acting like a kitten running and jumping. I've had him since 1994 and he is one of the family so i'm having a hard time dealing with it. And on that cheerful note--it's off to work.

More interview goodness!!

oh my God ! Oh My God! Jt Krull wrote back to us last night. Just a quick reminder--he's the writer of Green Arrow and Teen Titans. He wants to do the show! He said sometime in October would be great. We've read a bunch of his stuff and we like his work a lot. Oh yeah can't wait!

Half a day of hell

Woke up this morning feeling a bit crappy. Nothing compared to Diana who coughed and threw up a bit on Kath. So Diana stayed home from school and i called in late to work. Kath is coming home soon on her split shift and I'll be going in for 6 hours. So i will get yelled at for half of a shift. Good times. Gonna go eat some lunch and prepare for half a day of hell

Quiet Sunday

Having a swell quiet day hanging out with Diana and Kath. Getting ready to do another exciting episode of get your geek on tonight. Our friend hot Amy will be a guest tonight. Looking forward to it. I got to sleep in for the first time in a while and i'm feeling pretty good. Don't really have a lot to say today but I'm in a good mood which rarely happens so wanted to write it down before it fades. Have a great Sunday everybody.

Dancing Diana

Hey. Good day and welcome to Friday. I dropped Diana off to school a little while ago. I came home and am trying to find info for this weeks show. Pretty good morning so far. Gonna have a nice nap in a bit.

So forgot to mention that we signed up Diana for dance class. She's our little ballerina now. We Got her the tights and the outfit and last week was her first class. From what we gather, she loves it but she won't tell us what she has learned in the class. What a wacky kid.

Just wanted to give a shout out and a big thank you to Rob and Nickle. They were able to drive us to the ballet class despite having a million things to do yesterday. Thanks guys. You are both excellent friends.

150

Wow its my 150'th blog of 2010! And i have absolutely nothing to talk about! I had a shitty experience at work today. So that sucked. Listening to a jay and silent bob pod cat. That's cheering me right up.

Oh yeah my mom gave us an early christmas present. Something very awesome. She bought us tickets to see Barney Bentall in march at Brock University. I have the coolest mom ever.
I can't believe i have 2 days off. I'm gonna sleep a lot. I was so exhausted today. Felt like i hadn't slept in a week. Not good. Ayho w thanks for sticking with me to 150 blogs this year. I will try and be more interesting next time.

hugs cure all

What another shitty day. A customer called me Julie today! Seriously? How do you get Julie out of Jason? What the hell? I'm so glad its over. I miss Diana and Kath. Looking forward to hugs when they get here. That is the cure for a bad day.

Happy anniversary to me

Seeing how i didn't post all weekend i forgot to mention one special anniversary. Eleven years ago September 11th 1999 i met Kath for the first time. We had our first date, She made me cookies and we went out to see The Sixth Sense. Fast forward to 2010 and I'm still extremely happy and head over heels in love with my wife. Thank you Kath for 11 great years! You rock!

Day of awesomeness

Sunday we had quite the little family outing. We took Diana to the Galleria mall in Buffalo to get a new stuffed animal from build a bear. She chose a hello kitty and named it Alice. While we were at the mall Kath bought a collection of cookie cutters shaped like star wars characters. It made the geek in me smile.

we rushed home to do our show. We weren't even sure if we were gonna be doing a show. The server at trainrek radio had gone down. Luckily Rob had pulled a Macgyver and gotten it fixed with time to spare. It was a good show and it made me happy.

Later that night we had the most kick ass batch of chili ever courtesy of Kath. Amy came over and we watched the True Blood season finale. Good times.

It was a really cool day but all good things come to an end and another day of the craptacular job was on its way, Hooray for me.

Nervous morning

Ok i will let the cat out of the bag. This morning i had a job interview where Kath works. I found out about it yesterday. I was really nervous. I havent been on an interview in 9 years. I think i did ok. My typing test kind of sucked though. The lady that did the interviewing seemed nice. So if i get the job i can finally put annoying customers behind me. My one concern is that i may need to work at 8 in the morning and i have no idea how i would get there that early. The place is in Niagara Falls. Kath works at 9 and will have to get Diana to school. Kath and Rob both said things will work out. I sure hope thats true.

2nd day is also cool

Diana's 2nd day of school went great too. I have to admit i really like walking with her to school. Its the happiest moment of my day now. Unfortunately i work after i drop her off so my day goes right in the crapper. Such is life i guess.

First day back

First day of school wasn't too bad. I woke up early and we got Diana ready and i walked her to the school. We found the door she had to go in and we met her teacher who seemed really nice. Most of the kids from junior kindergarten are back with a few new kids. Diana is going for a full day this year instead of half a day. I actually felt sad when she went into class. My kid is growing up so fast.

I got to see Diana a bit when i came home for my lunch at 3. She had a great day and made some new friends. I'm so proud of her. I'm happy that i get to walk her in everyday now. Going to work after i drop her off is another story altogether.

Booze

Wow starting to remember why i quit drinking a million years ago. Last night we had Amy over. She's had a rough week so we tried to cheer her up. So naturally what cheers people up? Thats right booze. So Kath and i got a bit of booze and made some burgers. After our show we had Amy and her friend Johnny and Rob and Nickle over as well. Drunk Nickle is a hoot by the way. Anyhow i really don't drink alcohol anymore and the 6 drinks i had really knocked me for a loop. Now the good news is i want too hung over today but i did feel groggy and out of it for the whole day. We had a good time and a lot of laughs at least and i'm glad Amy was able to see "drunk" Jay as she requested. I think I'll stick to pop from now on.

Back to school

Happy labour day everyone! I can't believe summer vacation is over and Diana starts senior kindergarten tomorrow. What really sucks is that her school has barely given us any information. We got a letter stating what time she starts and that she's in an all day class. We don't know her teachers name or what doors she goes into or what room number she's in. I'm walking her in early tomorrow. I have to get up early, walk Diana to school and then get my ass to work. Should be fun. Kath has rearranged her schedule again. She's working split shifts so she can pick Diana up and then drive her to day care. Should be an interesting school year. I'm so happy her school is as organized as fan expo. Yup. Thats me being sarcastic.

A couple of cool con moments

Ok its been a week since i last blogged. I'll start September off with the few good things that happened at the con. It won't be a long blog that's for sure.

We spent a while in a section called Artist alley. Thats where all the comic book writers and artists hung out. Also a lot of vendors where creative people have made their own t shirts and paintings and buttons and so on. Kath and i made a lot of contacts for the show. We handed out our cards to them. There were a couple of people there that have made there own clerks type show about working in a comic book store. We purchased a dvd from them and met some of the actors from the show. They seemed really excited about being on the show. We havent had time to watch the dvd yet but will do so this week.

The highlight of fan expo? I went to the dc comics booth to meet a guy by the name of jt krul who is the current writer of Green Arrow. Green Arrow is a character i have been a fan of since i was a little kid. In recent years the character has been written by Judd Winnick and Kevin Smith himself. It was when Kevin Smith was writing the book that Kath got into the character. Nicole has also jumped on board the Green Arrow bandwagon. Anyhow the book has sucked large for the last year or so and i considered dropping it all together. Jt Krul took over earlier this year and really breathed new life into the character. We've reviewed a lot of his stuff on the show and Kath and i have both liked it a lot.
Anyhow i took a book for mr krul to sign and mentioned Kath and i were big fans. I gave him a card and asked if he'd be interested in doing an interview. He was so cool and said:
"I'll do you one better." with that he gave us his email address to set up an interview. Very cool. So something cool at least came out of that hellish day. It wasnt all that bad i guess. We did enjoy seeing everyones costume and i did find a couple of cool books. I think we will be throwing all our energy into next years wizard world con instead.

CONNNNN!!!!!!!

So here it is my report on this years fan expo convention. I figured I'd break it into 2 parts--the bad stuff and the good stuff. Believe it or not, this year the bad stuff outweighs the good. So usually i compare fan expo to Christmas. It's a place to go hang out with fellow geeks and get great deals on comics and see cool costumes and celebrities. This year i would compare it to Christmas i found out that Santa clause wasn't real.

We packed into a van with Rob and Nickle and Rob's kids and Russell. We had pre purchased tickets for the first time ever in hopes to avoid at least one line up. We figured we'd have a bit of a wait getting in with everyone else in the pre ticket line up. What we didn't count on was the gigantic line up around the building. The line up to buy tickets was short and they were being let in right away. Us poor bastards who actually bought tickets in advance had to wait almost 2 hours in line. It was like we were being punished for buying tickets in advance. It really sucked.

We finally got into the building and then had to stand in line to exchange our advance tickets for another ticket. So we got in and all went our separate ways. We had scheduled an interview with Liana k but we decided to skip it since it was so busy and crazy in there. Kath and i did a bit of shopping and then texted Rob. Come to find out Nickle had gone back to the van to quickly get something and then had to wait in another massively long line because no one was being let back into the building. Apparently the building was filled to capacity--yet continued to sell tickets. So no one--including vendors--was allowed back inside. It took Nickle another 2 hours and 45 minutes to get back in the building.

It should be mentioned the con was held in a smaller section of the convention hall. So it was wall to wall people. No one was happy to be there. Myself included. It was the worst con experience that i ever had. After our awesome experience at wizard world last March i was really disappointed. I should have known when we were declined press passes that it was gonna suck bad. It was so crowded that i didn't even want to search through bins for old comics. I love doing that by the way. Fan expo needs to get its act together next year or we might skip it. We've been going 10 years and this was the most disorganized we have ever seen it. So that's my rant. Tune in tomorrow for a recap of a couple of cool things that happened.

Yes! Back to work!

so my first day back after a week sucked balls and not in a good way. I spent the day missing Kath and Diana.I had a great weekend with them both. Nothing but cranky assholes. One guy just kept repeating over and over again "go to hell." So that was nice.

On the plus side we finally did find out that Diana will be in school all day this year. I can walk her in the morning and Kath can pick her up at night. Sleeping in was fun while it lasted.
Thats about all the rambling i can muster for now. I know i have a big fan expo write up to do. I'll get to it in a few days. Hope everyone is ok tonight. Thats a wrap

My kid is the coolest

So not to long ago i bout a box set that co-ntained most of the tv series Wiseguy. Wiseguy was a show i loved in the late 80's early 90's about a cop played by Ken Wahl who went undercover to infiltrate the mob and other organizations. Not a lot of people remember this show. Anyhow long story short--i had last week off so i watched a bunch of episodes while Diana played on the computer. We're all hanging out the other night and she starts humming. I immediately recognize that she is humming the theme from Wiseguy. I was very impressed. Also in the car the other day she was belting out "free falling by Tom Petty. My kid continues to impress me on a daily basis!

Day Off #2

Yesterday and i went to Kath's work with Rob and Anthony. Why you may ask? It was minacs appreciation day. They had a bunch of those bouncy houses for kids to jump around in. One was shaped like Wal-E the robot. Diana loved it in there. They had hamburgers and hotdogs and chips and sno cones to. We got to hang out with Kath and Nickle on their break. It was pretty fun. I drank a lot of pop. It so beat getting yelled at by customers at my work. Speaking of which i don't remember my work having an empluee appreciation day. Just saying.

No customers = happy Jay

Praise the God! I am off the rest of the week. Yesterday was my only day at work. It started off good. All my customers in the morning were actually nice. Then i made the mistake of saying to my friend Trudy "i'm having an awesome day so far!" Yep i had jynxed myself. For the next 4 hours or so all my calls were horrible people who had nothing better to do then call and swear and ask for supervisors. I'm surprised Hitler himself didnt call from beyond the grave. It was rough. I even had a crazy old lady keep me on the phone through my lunch break. I was really starving and cranky and i think i got a little mouthy by minute 45 of the call.

So yeah my day blew goats. I booked the rest of the week off so i should be headache free. Gonna catch up on my wise guy box set and of course saturday is the con, We emailed tv's Liana K yesterday and she is totally cool with doing an interview for the show. So we won't be completely shut out this time. Anyhow gonna go eat some breakfast and wait for Diana to wake up. Have a great day

Jay

Tron Time

Friday night The Stewart family joined forces with Rob and Nicole and family to go see a screening of the 1982 film Tron. Pulp Comics in Niagara Falls was putting on a free screening in front of Niagara falls city hall. I hadnt seen the movie since i was 12 and Kath had never seen it. Seeing how there is a sequel coming to theatres this Christmas we thought we would go and see the original.

We all packed into the van and stopped to get a few pizzas. We picked them up from a splace on Hartzell road. For some reason there were dozens of under age kids hanging out in front of the shop. We got to see the gay version of Jonah Hill. It was entertaining.
We got to the Falls shortly before 10 and set up our lawn chairs. THey also sold pop corn and snacks there. It was a cool set up.

The movie itself was kind of dated. It was still cool seeing it though. Made me miss going to the arcade. I am looking forward to seeing Tron 2. We all had a big laugh. Bruce Boxleitner wore gigantic glasses. It turned out to be an extreemly chilly night. It was a fun time though and hope they have some more free screenings. I'd buy that for a dollar. OOo they should play Robo cop!

The comedy stylings of Diana Rose Stewart

Diana is a funny kid. We were sitting in macdonalds and i asked her if she'd seen the Stuart Little movies. They're being plated on the movie network next month. I explained it was a bout a mouse that gets adopted by human parents and that there's also a talking cat in it. So the kid then says

"then the talking cat eats stuart Little. The end."

followed by

"then the dad comes in and steps on Stuart Little. The end."

The kid makes me laugh.

Hair today, gone tomorrow

ok i can reveal a big secret I've had for 2 weeks. Our friend Amy (or hot amy if you will) cut my hair. Why is this big news? Its the first time since 1997 that my hair is short. I had reservations about cutting it. Last time i cut it short it was because a girl i had a crush on told me she thought i would look good. Aside from making out with her one night nothing else happenned so i grew it long again and vowed to never cut it short again. So what happenned? Well a few things. Kath said i started to look like an old man with thinning long hair. Then we went to a stag and doe where we saw a creepy guy in his 50's with greasy long hair. I figured I'd give it a try. Hey if i didnt like it than it would grow back.

Amy was very cool and didnt go crazy or anything and gave me a respectable hair cut. I was the talk of the call center the day after the trim. Everyone was coming up to me making comments and saying i look younger. Yes Kath loved it.

Why was i keeping it a secret? Well i wanted to see the look on my moms face in person so didnt want her to know beforehand. She's been after me the whole time to cut it. SHe was definately in shock but she loved it. SO thats my story. At least i won't get any more of "hey you look like the Undertaker!" I sure won't miss that
