I hate the end of the weekend

Man why is my stupid weekend over? I can't deal with 5 days in a row of this crap. Its gonna be a long week. Kath has training this week and won't be home until after i leave for work. I'll be seeing her on my lunch break only this week. Rob and i will be checking out a new collectibles store on Tuesday and getting some groceries in the states. That'll be cool at least. I can't believe July is over. At least i have fan expo to look forward to. See ya July.

3rd day is the charm

It was my 3rd saturday in a row at the comic book store and i thought it went great. No screw ups at all-- which i loved. Felt good.Sure beats my other p.o.s job.

Just sitting here working on stuff for the show tomorrow night. No set agenda so there will probably be a lot of rambling. Good times.

Rob and i are going to the flea market again tomorrow--3 weeks in a row. Havent been to the flea market this many times since the 80's. How will i follow up my Christopher lloyd klingon glass from last week? Stay tuned.

vdt

Wow i actually got offered voluntary down time at work today. I hadn't been offerred that since i left the cable company. From what i understand its never given out with the phone company. Well work was handing out vdt left right and center all week. Because of this it got busy very quickly when people were being sent home. I was already in a bad mood to begin with when i got there today. It was crazy busy and i didn't want to be there. I had to work until 1 am so there was no way i was getting it. Or so i thought. Around 6;30 i was asked if i wanted to go home. I jumped at the chance. I may regret it on my next pay check but tonight it felt great. So i'm blogging at 11:51 when i normally would be working and i love it.

Once a year with Barn

Just waiting for Kath to come home. We're gonna get some groceries and comics. Then its off to shitty work! Hooray for me. It feels like i just got home from work. I'm hoping it isn't busy tonight. It was busy right until 1 o clock last night and that's insane.

In happier news The old winery put up all the pictures they took at the Barney Bentall concert. The owner stated they wanted to make it an annual event. I would love seeing Barney there once a year. That would be so cool. I have my fingers crossed that i will get to see him rock out at least 1 more time with his band the legendary hearts as well.

Dealers-worse than hitler?

Work sucked today. Big surprise huh? I had a run in with a dealer today. To sum up he fucked up an order,i fixed it but not the way he wanted and then reported me to a supervisor. He called up and couldn't figure out why he couldn't port a phone number over from another phone company. I don't now what he was doing but i had no problem doing it. Then he springs another port on the same work order on me. So i did it. Then he demands a family plan be put on the account. A family plan is when you have more than one phone line on an account and we give a five dollar a month credit. Well he didn't tell me at the beginning of the call that there were 2 phone lines involved. If there is a port in progress we can't make any changes to the account--including adding a family plan. Ports generally take about 3 hours to complete. I advised that in 3 hours the customer could call back and we could add the family plan and they would get there 5 dollar a month credit. Well that wasn't good enough for the dealer and he wanted me to give the customer a credit right then and there. I advised i couldn't validate an extra credit as he would be getting one applied in 3 hours. Well apparently i wasn't doing my job and i had to do what he said and i better get a supervisor. I calmly tried to explain things to him but he didnt want to hear it. Meanwhile lets sum up--the dealer couldn't do his job in the first place and i had to add the line then he neglected to tell me upfront that there were 2 lines involved. Fucker never even thanked me for fixing the problem. The supervisor got on the line and totally took my side. Did i mention i hate the dealers? I seriously do. They suck. End of story

An ok birthday

Ok the birthday didn't go as bad as i thought it would. Diana drew me a cool card that featured me as a super hero with my trusty side kick Hesh the cat. Kath came home on her break and took us to Dairy Queen for a blizzard. It was no Captain America cake but was still awesome. I got plenty of facebook birthday greetings and some emails from good friends such as Andrea. Of course my evening completely sucked balls. I was stuck at work. Oh and it was so super busy. Oh well. Can't complain too muck. Thanks to my family and friends for making it bearable

I will say i am touched by all my birthday greetings on facebook. I'm happy i will get to see my family in the afternoon. Thats about it. Birthdays bah humbug.

Blue Jays fan for life

i was just watching the major league baseball hall of fame ceremony. I've never watched it before but tuned in this time. What made me watch it this year? Roberto Alomar was being inducted. He was a member of the Toronto blue jays my favorite team. He played in the early 90's for the Jays and helped them win 2 back to back world series. He was the first Jay in the history of the hall of fame so far. I have to admit i teared up a little bit listening to his speech. I remember when they won that first world series back in 1992 and being glad to be Canadian. The 1993 world series was even more exciting. Of course they haven't won since and in recent years its really been tough to be a fan. Back then though was a magical time. I've been to several games over the years with Kath but haven't been since Diana was one. I would love to take Diana to a game someday.

An excellent day for Jay

I'm in such an awesome mood right now. I had the best day. Started the day off with a visit to the flea market with Rob and Kath and our kids. The flea market has been there since 1987. I used to go all the time when i was younger. Thanks to Rob I am totally hooked on going again in my adult years. There is one cool lady there who has tons of super hero and star wars toys. I even found a Christopher Lloyd star trek glass which is now proudly in our hutch.

The second highlight of my day was seeing Captain America the first avenger. Kath and Rob and Nickle and i went. I was blown away. I think it was the best super hero movie if not best movie i have seen this year so far. It was so good. Everything about it was amazing. I can't believe its going to be 10 months until the avengers movie is released. Son of a .....

To end the evening we did an excellent episode of Get your geek on and our friend John Bulmer the artist helped us out. We felt it was a great show and we had an awesome time. I'm just flying right now. I guarantee that 5 minutes after i start work tomorrow the bad mood will set in. I'm really sorry to see the good mood leave.

Comic book store 2.0

Ok I'm happy to report that i felt way better this week at the comic book store. Everything went great. The cash register didn't mess up and i was happy. I had my first conversation with an over the top nerd. He declared Green Lantern to be the worst movie of all time and went on a rant for about 10 minutes. It was kind of funny but i waited until he left the store to laugh. I was in such a good mood when i left the store--unlike last week where i didn't say a word on the way home. Special thanks to Rob for driving me and picking me up. I appreciate it man.

Hell must have frozen over because i got to see 2 concerts in a row.Wednesday night we got to see Barney Bentall again. He was back at the old winery in niagara on the lake almost a year to the day we last saw him there. As usual it was awesome. Its a really nice environment for shows. This time out Barney had a violinist with him and even played 3 new songs. I'm excited that we might get a new album out of him in the next year. Later in the set much like last year--Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo joined him on stage. My friends Andrea and Stacey came to the show with us as well. It was really nice. I hadn't hung out with Andrea in what seems like a million years. I had actually seen Barney with her in 1991. Yup 20 years ago. I am old. So here's hoping for another great Barney show same time next year at the old winery.

Hey gang. I'm in a mega excellent mood. I just got back from hanging out with Rob. We had gone to Art Park in Lewiston to see Cheap Trick. I'm a huge fan and i've seen them a few times in the last 20 years. We got there around 4;30. Did i mention the concert was free? That rocked. It cost me nothing to see a band i loved.

It was pretty hot and bright so we did the only thing we could--we drank some beer and chatted about other bands we would go see for free. Luckily it was so hot i sweat all of the beer out. Cheap trick took the stage at 8.On the loud speakers sound clips like apu from the simpsons singing dream police were playing. It was so cool. The band looked and sounded amazing. They truly rocked. There were songs in the setlist that i was totally surprised to hear. By the way here is their set list

Happy birthday Dennis

Last weekend it was my friend Dennis birthday. I hadn't seen him in a massively long time. His sister invited us to his party. I met Dennis when i was working at kfc in 1988 and we have been friends ever since. We're both shy guys and i remember it took at least 2 months before we spoke to each other. Anyhow i hope you had a good birthday man you certainly deserve it.

training for the kid

This night marks the first night of Diana diaper training. She stopped wearing a diaper during the day a long time ago but was still wearing one at night. This will be the first night of no diaper. I'm sure there will be accidents and i've put towels down just in case. She's a trooper and i know she can do it.

Why isnt it the weekend yet?

Ok this week needs to seriously be over. Work has been way too busy. To make matters worse the other person who works the same shift as me has called in sick twice. So this meant i was the only person on the phones from 10;30 until 1 in the morning. I was so pissed. I have 1 more shift left until i get the weekend off. There's lots of cool stuff coming up for me in the next week. Saturday i start work at Pulp Comics. Sunday i believe we are going to the flea market with Rob. Next Tuesday I'm seeing Cheap Trick and Wednesday i get to see Barney Bentall again. I get 4 of the next 5 days off of work. I get to see friends and family and get to work at my dream job. If i can just make it through tomorrow without losing my shit.

Great news for the geek.

And now we interrupt the usual bitching about the day job to have some nice entries about cool things that have been going on. So i finally get to cross something off of my bucket list. I've been hired to work Saturdays at Pulp Comics. Paul the owner needed a Saturday guy and since i no longer work saturdays in hell i signed up. I had my training yesterday and i start next weekend. So what about the stupid shift bid at the day job every 3 months? Well the next bid is in October and if i get a shitty shift then my lovely wife kath will step up to the plate and replace me. We wouldnt leave Paul in the lurch. He's a good guy.

Thise of you that know me know my crazy love of comics which goes back to when i was a kid. I've been wanting to work in a comic book store since i was 13. It is a dream come true.

Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of the new shift. It sucked worse than day 1. So there are only 2 people that close on the phones. I guess previously it had been 4 or 5 people. On the shift bid paper there were 4 slots available for people to work until 1am. Last night the other person that works the shift called in sick. So yes i was the only person on the phones. Not a good thing. It was super busy--there seemed to be a major issue with our network signal in vancouver and edmonton. This being the case, the manager in charge and the floor support had to jump in to take calls. It remained busy until 1 am. I'm still waiting for 45 minutes between calls as i was promised. I didn't sign on to be the only person taking calls. To top it off i got into an aguement with a guy named mr dong--swear that was his name who sounded like mr chow from the hangover. Was waiting for him to yell gay boy. He did yell awesome a lot. So to sum up day two sucked more balls than day one.

Happy birthday Rob

Hey just want to wish a happy birthday yesterday to my good friend Rob. For a present i wanted to bring back Stargate Universe--seeing as how i don' have power over tv executives i hope you liked the Walking dead book.

What the h?

Just did my first 4;30 to 1 am shift. Guess what? I hate it! I was led to believe that it was dead during that shift. It was busy right until 1 am. What the H? To top things off there are only 2 of us working that shift. It sucked--and 95 percent of the calls were technical calls. So to sum up my new shift-it sucks balls. Good Night.
