Sick again

Shit. I really was all set to go back to work today. I went to bed at 10:30 last night. I never go to bed that early. I was going to sleep off the sick. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. I got all achy again with the chills. I was delirious. Kath says i even talked in my sleep. Woke up at 7:30. Felt really rough but was still considering going in to work. Then i threw up. That was the end of going into work. This means i don't get paid for the holiday tomorrow which means i lose 3 days of pay. It  really sucks. Its also New years eve,I didn't have any crazy party plans but Kath was going to make all kinds of great treats to eat. I'm scared to eat anything for fear of throwing up again. Well hopefully next time i write I'm feeling better,

Sick

Today was supposed to be my return to taking billing calls. It was not to be. I woke up at 5 in the morning feeling sicker than a dog. I was achy and freezing and was having terrible nightmares. When my alarm went off at 7:30 i made an executive decision that i was staying home. I haven't been this sick in awhile. Unfortunately i have to go in tomorrow even if I'm dying. I will miss out on getting paid for New Years day if i'm not there tomorrow. I messaged a couple of my friends that were going back to billing and they said it was terrible in there. Yay. I'll have a full report tomorrow on what its like.

sad day for the family.

Today we had the sad task of attending my Aunt Kristin's funeral. She was my Mom's lifelong friend for 50 years and had been battling cancer for the past year.. She was a really nice lady and I'll always remember her fondly. It was a nice service.

It got me to feeling grateful for the friendships i have made in my life and really glad Colin and i settled our differences this year. Life is way to short.

Mostly Comics big day

Congratulations to our friends at Mostly Comics. Last month they did a long over due renovation of the store. I've been going there for thirty years  to buy comics practically every week.Fourteen years ago a new owner named Kim took over the store. He and his fellow workers Bev and Sheryl have been really  good to us over the years and there isn't anything that we wouldn't do for them. This is why we said yes to pod casting from the store on the day of their grand re opening. We had an awesome time and the store was busy all day. Ryan came and took pictures and the Mayor of St Catharines was there to cut the ribbon.  So thanks Mostly Comics for a great day and can't wait to buy comics from you for another 30 years!

Its Christmas all over again

Merry Christmas everybody! It's December 25th and guess what? I still don't have the Christmas spirit. I'm looking forward to seeing my family and eating turkey but i still feel so bah hum bug. Next week i am done training and back to the billing department. I'm still kind of pissed off about that. Its been doing nothing but raining and snowing the last week. Not to happy about that either.

Despite my crappy week and dislike for Christmas, I do hope everyone is having a safe holiday season with friends and family.

Conversations with Alfonso

It's 2:00 am and I'm about to head off to bed. I've complained quite a bit and I am feeling quite bitter, I thought I would end the night on some good news that we experienced recently.

Earlier this year at Art o con we met an interviewed a really cool guy named Alfonso Espinos. Alfonso runs a comic book company called Studiocomix and he writes and draws some of the titles as well.

One of the great things about doing the podcast this year is the new friends and contacts we've made. We've gotten a little bit of recognition as well We never had that with the old live show. In June at the Niagara Falls comic con the first person who said hi to us and shook my hand was Alfonso. I thought that was pretty cool.

In July we ran into Alfonso at con Bravo where we were  lucky enough to interview him again, Following that event he started linking to our pod cast on his face book page. We really appreciated that.

In September at the Canadian toy con we got to interview him a third time. This time we felt really comfortable around him and joked around a little more during the interview.

This brings us to December and Alfonso has put out the third issue of his comic The Night Spike. On the inside back cover he put up an ad for We Got The Geek. I was so touched by the gesture. It was nice. I want to take this time to thank him again for the promotion. He's such a nice guy, Do us a favor and check out his stuff at http://www.studiocomix.com

More head aches for Jay

I  got some more wonderful news last week and by wonderful i mean shitty. Remember my awesome job in the welcome department? Well last week we were told the welcome department was being discontinued after 18 months. So what does this mean for the 12 people including myself that were in the department? We are being shipped back to the billing department. Longtime readers of my blog know about all the headaches i used to get from the fine customers that call in to the department. To put it as nice as i can--I am not looking forward to it.

The good news is that they put us in a training class for the next three weeks. That's great because i don't remember a lot. I do remember that the customers always made me angry. I can't wait to go back. Merry Christmas to me indeed. Oh that was sarcastic as well.

I want to punch winter in the face.

Well i have slacked off again after getting back into the swing of things. If you read the last post December started off awesome. I change my mind December sucks ass. We had some technical issues with our  internet. We also had car issues. As i type these words we are in the middle of our first big snow fall of the year. The roads absolutely suck. You know what else sucks? We had been planning to attend a comic convention in Toronto this weekend. We were going up with our buddy John Bulmer and we had some interviews lined up for the pod cast. There's no way we are going now. We aren't risking our lives for that. I am really disappointed by this. It sucks. On the plus side Diana likes shoveling for some unknown crazy reason. She helped me a few times already yesterday. Please winter go away.

A great start to December

Hey everyone. Welcome to December. So i gotta tell you all- I had a great first day of December. The snow is melting and it felt nice out. I only needed 1 jacket instead of 2. Best of all--I got to have a day off with Kath and Diana! We got to sleep in which was a big plus. We headed off to Pulp comics with our artist friend Chris. Pulp has open sketch Sundays where artists can go and hang out and draw. We interviewed the lady in charge of it--Racquel. She was really cool and nice. Then we headed off to Sketchbook comics. The guys there have been helping us with a weekly segment where they discus which books are being released that week.

We came home around 6 and recorded a few things with our buddies Kristen and Hunter, We followed that up with pizza and the Walking Dead. What a fantastic day.

Bah humbug!

To the people that are already putting up your Christmas trees--all i have to say to that is-- really? It isn't even December yet. The last thing i want to do is think about Christmas. We're not even close to getting ready. I guess I'm the grinch this year. Oh well.

On a related note. Once again I have skipped my works Christmas party. That's 12 years in a row baby!!  Why break my streak now?  That would be wrong.

Black Friday blues.

Well it was the second day off in a row that work made us take. Its Black Friday in the states. Its a big holiday  where all the stores in America have gigantic sales and customers line up  and almost kill everyone trying to get the deals.  We have American customers and the powers that be don't want us calling anyone today. It sort of sucks. Kath still has to work and Diana is in school so its kind of boring around here, Today Kath dropped me off downtown. She works downtown now. I hung out at a Tim Hortons for an hour and then went to Mostly Comics to get my books. Although it had snowed last night it was pretty warm out so i walked home while listening to music on my ipod. I got home and immediately started to miss the family.  Hopefully next time i'll get a day off with Diana and Kath. Hopefully no one died this Black Friday trying to get a deal on a toaster or something.

The day i loved the day job

So i  guess i should tell the tale of how i wound up with two tickets to the Hammer town comic con. Its actually a pretty cool story.

Longtime followers of the blog will remember that I'm not a fan of my day job. I have never taken part  in any extra activities my work has done. I've never even been to one of my staff Christmas parties in the last 12 years. In mid September i read that our work was going to have a comic con themed day. I thought it was a cool idea but figured I would stay out of it. As i was leaving work a guy i kind of recognized came running up to me and asked what i was doing for comic con day. I replied probably nothing. Then he asked me if i was still doing the pod cast? Ok i was starting to get curious. I guess my name was given to the committee in charge of the event and they were interested in me doing the pod cast at work. I quickly changed my tune and said that i was indeed interested. It turns out the gut i recognized was also friends  with Paul who runs Pulp Comics and his name was Dusty,

So the following week for the first time ever i was excited to go to work. I even wore my half assed Clark Kent costume. I gotta tell--in 12 years it was the coolest day i ever had at work. There were super hero movies being played on the tvs and people  in costumes. There were giveaways and super hero music being played in the hallway and free bags of popcorn. I sat at the front with Dusty. Man that guy knows his stuff. I set up the dice game that we run when we have appearances at cons. I was a bit nervous as it was the first time i had run a table without Kath, I recorded a full day of answers and had an excellent time. One of the ladies in charge--Meagan said i did an awesome job and would consider me for future events. Oh yeah i wasn't complaining that this also got me off of the phones all day.

The next day as i was sitting at my desk wishing i was doing the podcast, i was visited at my desk by Meagan. She produced a comic book looking statue with a panel that said best pod caster. So i guess that technically we now have an award winning pod cast. The icing on the cake was that i was also presented with the tickets to Hammer town for doing such a good job. It was such a great moment. I'll never forget it.

Dammit

Wow. No sooner do i type up my experience with getting press passes then i see a guest announcement for the next Niagara Falls comic con. The stars of Comic book men.

Comic book men is a show that is on a m c and stars the friends of Kevin Smith who run a comic book store in New Jersey. Two of the guys Walt and Bry have also been a bunch of Kevin Smiths movies. I would kill to interview these guys. I'd have so many questions. Kevin Smith movies were a big part of why Kath and i met originally, The movie Dogma had been released around the time we had met. We decided that if nothing came out of us meeting that we would at least get together to see the movie.

What do you guys think? Will this be the year that Kath and i finally get press passes so we can interview these guys? Star tuned true believer.

We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

So October the 5th came. We had free tickets for a con that i really had no desire to go to. Diana got in free as well and we brought her friend Sarah as well. The best part of the day would be our interview with Claudia Wells from Back To The Future.  I had 10 questions ready and not all of then were Back To The Future related.  We jumped in the car and headed to the Hamilton convention centre.  We had been there for Con Bravo in July and had a great time.

We arrived and went inside and then we realized that Diana's friend Sarah is terrified of crowds--especially ones that consist of people in weird costumes. She immediately had a panic attack. Kath had to go in the hall way with her to try and keep her calm. There was no way we'd be able to take her back in. I was gonna be on my own for the interview.

Can i talk a little about the con set up? Lets see how can i put this nicely. It was a cluster fuck.Al the artists, vendors and celebrities were crammed into one room. At con bravo that one room was the artist alley. It was hard to move around in and they were letting people leave out the entrance. I wasn't a fan. I kind of like breathing.

Nervously i approached Claudia Wells table. She was really busy so wanted to schedule the interview for later on in the day. Much like her email she was so nice. She is also gorgeous. See the pic i found online as an example of that. We talked for a few minutes and  it was decided that i should come back in two hours.I was in a good mood. Would that mood last?

So we'll fast forward a couple hours. It was interview time. I had researched Claudia Wells stuff all week and i thought i had some awesome questions.  So i did my intro and asked the first question. She started to answer and then asked me to re start the interview. Oh shit. What had i done? I asked what was wrong and she said i had asked a question that she had answered many times and  wanted to know if i had any original questions. My heart sank. I checked out my questions and didn't know where to go to next. I began to sweat and um and ah a lot. So i nervously got through 5 of my 10 questions. I thought i had failed and i immediately went into shock. It felt like the worst interview i had ever done. In the middle of it  there was an announcement over the loud speaker. It kept getting worse. I concluded the interview and i thought i might cry. She thanked me for the interview and wanted us to send her a copy of it. I thanked her and left and still in shock i texted Kath. Kath told me not to worry and that she would work her editing magic.  Regardless i left that con in a bad mood vowing to never return.

Fast forward a few weeks and Kath did edit up the interview and attached it to a recent back to the future show that we had done with John and a few others. As promised we sent Claudia Wells a copy of the interview. Guess what she did? She posted a link to it on her personal web site!!  Like i said she was a really nice lady and i guess i can understand that after 30 years you might get sick of answering the same questions. As for future cons?  We will continue to ask Chris for press passes. We ain't gonna give up that easy. We're making a name for ourselves and the other cons have been really supportive. I'm excited to see where We Got The Geek goes next year.

The worst con ever : Part one

So wow. People actually noticed i hadn't been blogging. I'll give a quick shout out to my buddy Andrea. I guess she's been waiting for a new blog for awhile. Bless her heart!  Well lets see if i can entertain her and my legion of fans.

I'll tell ya about an experience we had at a brand new comic book convention called Hammer Town On October 5th. I actually won  a pair of tickets otherwise there's no way in hell i would have supported it.

So if you recall Kath and I had tried to get press passes to the Niagara Falls comic con for the last couple of years. You may recall an older blog where i talk about how a guy named Chris keeps screwing us over every year and never gives us a good reason why. Anyhow Chris was in charge of a brand new con in Hamilton. It was an untested con at a time of year  that a lot of people aren't going to cons.

Our good friend John Bulmer suggested we try for press passes again. I didn't feel like getting rejected again. John explained that if he turns us down for press passes to an untested con then he's just being an asshole. So Kath wrote up a massive email of all the stuff we've accomplished in such a short time with We Got The Geek. It was an impressive list and email. I started to think that we might have a shot. Then we got the response and---no. Shut out again. Apparently we weren't getting the numbers on our site that would be necessary to cover a brand new untested event. Seriously? Screw that. We weren't gonna go and support it then. I love comic cons so it takes a lot for me to pass up the chance to go to one.

Then they started announcing guests. No one special. As a matter of fact most of the guests had already appeared at the Niagara Falls con. Way to reach for the stars Chris! Then an announcement that made me sad that i wasn't going. Three actors from one of my all time favorite movies Back To The Future. Now lets keep in mind that it wasn't Michael J Fox or Christopher Lloyd.  It was Claudia Wells who played Marty's girlfriend and also the actors that played Principal Strickland and Mayor Goldie Wilson. Man i loved that movie and it would be cool to interview any of them.

Then as fate would have it i won some tickets. Thats a story for another blog coming soon.  I decided (and pardon my french)  fuck it. Chris may have turned us down but I'm gonna contact Claudia Wells ahead of time and ask her for an interview. Kath was really concerned. What would Chris do if he saw us walking around doing interviews with no press passes. Um, not give us press passes again? Who gives a shit what he thinks. So we messaged Claudia Wells and she responded right away. What a nice lady. She agreed to an interview. I was in seventh heaven.  So lets sum up  n less than a year we had interviewed actors from Star Wars and Big Bang Theory and now Back to the Future?  Yes i was slightly proud of our pod cast and a little disappointed that none of this stuff happened three years ago when we were  doing the live show. So i prepared some questions for the big day. How did it go over? You'll have to read the next blog to find out!

Happy 50th you wacky time lord

Happy belated 50th anniversary Doctor Who!  My parents used to watch this show in the 1970's on tv Ontario. The only thing i remembered were the opening credits with Tom Baker's huge Doctor head taking up the whole screen.  My first experience watching and remembering a Doctor Who episode was in 1996. At that point the Doctor hadn't been on tv in 7 years. There was a movie on the Fox channel. At the time i watched it because we got 3 channels and nothing else was on. I rewatched this movie last week and it wasn't as bad as i remembered.

I recently got into the show and have been loving it.  The new series started in 2005.We got to see an awesome Doctor Who 50th anniversary movie over the weekend. Thank you to Ryan for inviting us over to watch on his big screen tv. It was pretty kick ass. There will next be a Doctor Who special on Christmas day and then a new season with a new Doctor hopefully next summer.

Thanksgiving time.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends  or as we call it here in Canada Thursday. I am thankful for an awesome family. I am also thankful that We Got The Geek is getting stronger everyday. I'm not gonna lie i am thankful for the extra turkey in November!

what's the password Kenneth?

An interesting aside before i do a real blog. I hadn't blogged in so long that i had forgotten the password to get into my account. I struggled for about twenty minutes before i got in.I suppose i shouldn't wait so long between blogs. I wonder how many times that i can use the word blog in this entry. Blog blog bloggitty blog! Ok I'm done. So I'll be back later for more blog action.

Back to the blog

So hey everyone. Long time no see. I've done one blog in almost three months. Yup that is odd for me for sure. Some good stuff has happened  and some bad stuff has as well. Such is life. A lot of factors account for why i haven't blogged. The main reason is I'm just too darn tired after work and all i want to do is lay on the couch and watch tv. Also i find that if I'm sad i don't feel like blogging either. There's been a few days where I have felt sad. Is that normal by the way?Anyhow i am off today. I work for an American company and today is American thanksgiving--or as its known in Canada, Thursday! So since its an American holiday, I've been given the day off.It kind of sucks. Kath still has to work and Diana is still at school so basically i'm home alone, feeling lonely as hell. Since I'm off i figured I'd write up a few blogs today. Hopefully i can remember some stuff we've some between September and November. So I have to do a couple of chores but i promise i will be back later. Have a great day everyone!

Good times at the toy show

Once again its time to play catch up. Its been a pretty cool  month so far. The day job hasn't been to bad.  Mondays are quiet. Kath goes to work, Diana is in school. I tend to do  chores. and listen to old pod casts.  The pod cast has been running smoothly. We've had our friends over to record reviews on Beastmaster and Back to the future. Speaking of the pod cast i do want to mention a really cool event we went to,

Earlier in September we had a table set up at the Canadian Toycon in Burlington. It was our 5th event since we set up shop with the new show last February. To compare we did 4 tables in the whole 3 year history of the last show. Anytime i gotta tell ya,what a great even the toy show turned out to be. It was so well organized. We really had a great time. So let me tell ya about the highlights of the day.

There were actually a couple of celebrities there from the show the Big Bang Theory. John Ross Bowie who plays Barry Kripke and Ian Scott Rudolph who plays Captain Sweatpants. They were the friendlies celebrities we ever spoke with and they actually came to our table to be interviewed!! It was the first time this has happened. We had introduced ourselves earlier in the day and chatted about the show and then they came over. They were so nice and funny. They posed for pics and they gave free autographed photos. So cool!! The interviews turned out great.

The other highlight? My buddy Colin and his family came out. First time i had seen him since July 1st when we re established our friendship. So i got to  hang out and play catch up and it was great. I was in such a great mood!!

We really hope we made an impression  on the people running the toy show. They put on 5 different cons a year and we'd love to get involved with more events. Definitely one of the best events we've been a part of. Oh and did my first cos play ever as well. A half assed Clark Kent with Superman t shirt underneath. So below are pics. First pic is Captain Sweatpants and the second one is Barry Kripe.

Gonna get back in time

I mentioned a movie i love a few posts back--Raiders Of the Lost Ark. Another film i love is the 1985 classic-Back To The Future. Its got time travel and Huey Lewis music so you know i love it. I own the Back to The Future trilogy and a few months back i got to share them with Diana for the first time. She loved them. Why am i bringing it up now?  Well last Friday a local radio station was playing the first movie on the big screen down by the beach here in town. We got some treats and  threw our lawn chairs in the car and went to watch it, It was very cool seeing it on the big screen again and its still such a nice film. Man movies were so much better back then.

Congratulations buddy

Congratulations are in order. My good friend of 25 years, Andrea has gotten married. I want to wish her all the happiness in the world. A big vulcan salute and a tip of the Indiana Jones fedora to her and her new husband.

Its Not the years, its the mileage

Wow i hit the jackpot!!  I just found out we have the action channel and what's the first thing i get to see? The last 45 minutes of my favorite movie Raiders Of The Lost Ark!!    I got to see that movie in the theatre 9 times in 1981. Still a fantastic film that has held up all these years later. Indiana Jones is my all time favorite character and Harrison Ford is my favorite actor If that wasn't enough, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom just came on!!  If i stay up another 2 hours perhaps i will see Last Crusade!!  Good times.

14 years ago tonight

So 14 years ago tonight I first spoke with Kath online in a chat room. She caught my eye because she mentioned she was from Buffalo which isn't to far from here. We chatted for about an hour and i had to cut it short to go  work the midnight shift at the Donut Diner. I had forwarded her my pic which she calls my Duran Duran pic. When i got home at 7 in the morning i  opened up an email to see her pic.

Anyhow  that was the beginning and since then she has become my wife and best friend and now co host. It sure doesn't feel like 14 years. Happy anniversary of our first conversation honey!

End of the summer

It's the last day of August. I can't believe summer is almost done. Diana goes back to school on Tuesday. I can't believe the kid is going into grade 3. It blows my mind. She's growing up so fast. Five more years until she's a teenager. Ok gonna stop myself there before i start getting depressed.

This summer turned out to be better than i thought. I became friends with Colin again , i got to try camping with my family and i met Macgyver. More on the Macgyver meeting really soon.

In other good news we will have a table at the Burlington toy show next weekend. We're gonna try and  get the word out to more people about our show. I can't wait. Oh and we were also provided with press passes to this event as well. Thank you Burlington toy con.

Con Bravo

Going back in time to July--my birthday July 26 to be exact. So we discovered another cool comic book convention in Burlington called Con Bravo. When were at the Niagara Falls comic con we got word of con Bravo from a few people we had interviewed. On a lark Kath applied for press passes. We heard from them right away. and they provided us with 3 press passes.  So on July 26th we grabbed our business cards and recording device and gathered our good friend John Bulmer.

I gotta tell you, this con was so organized. It was easy to get around. There was a big artist alley section featuring comic book artists and all kinds of geek crafts. Between Kath and John and myself we managed to get 10 interviews. It was great.  We got to interview a guy named Alphonso who runs an independent comic company called studio comix. We had met him at art o con and we've been promoting each other ever since. Great guy.  We had a fantastic time. We also made a new contact. There were a few ladies promoting a con in Guelph next year--g con. We told them about our pod cast and they want us to be involved. See? we're making new friends and contacts with this new show and it  makes me happy. I've included a pic of myself and our contact from g con.

Before we left we  got our photos done once again by the fine folks from Cos play for the cure.  So thanks con Bravo for an awesome day. You guys sure do know how to put on a great show.

The end of August

Holy. Tomorrow is the last day of August. Maybe i should blog at least once this month? How has everyone been? Hasn't been a bad month. Well except for our fridge dying. It was terrible for a few days. Food defrosting and going bad, Luckily our complex was cool and got  us a new  one  in a few days. Food is good now and we have ice cubes!

August 23rd was my sisters birthday so happy birthday sis!!

What else? I got into Doctor Who. That character has been around for 50 years. I remember my parents watching it when i was a kid. Well the new adventures of the Doctor started in 2005 and Kath has been watching it. I caught on  about 4 seasons into the new series and so has Diana. Pretty cool show.

Well i'm rambling. I will have more blogs momentarily.

Other birthday goodness

So a bad thing and a good thing that happened on my birthday
I started the day off cleaning out a web full of spiders from inside a closet. That was nice.

Now the good thing

There was a bikini car wash in front of my work complete with monster trucks.

Happy birthday to me

44. Really?

Dammit. It was my birthday on Friday July 26th. God, i thought we had a deal where i would skip birthdays from now on. How the hell am i 44? I act like a kid most of the time. So i'm young at heart? Anyhow i worked all day and caught a cold. The family took me out for a really nice dinner at  a place in the states called the silo which was featured on tv. Excellent food and excellent company. Thanks to Kath and Diana for trying to give me a happy birthday once again.

Camping

So jumping from Canada day to July 6th. For years I've been wanting to go camping with Kath. I used to camp all the time when i was a kid and in the 90's i would go to Sherkston Beach with my buddies. Of course those Sherkston times involved a lot of alcohol.

Our friends Darren and Alex and their children were going camping and asked if we wanted to go. Not sure how she managed it but Alex convinced Kath to go. Diana was pretty excited as well. The plan was to  on the 6th and come home on the 8th. We'd go swimming at the beach and we'd eat awesome food and drink around the campfire. We were going to be about an hour outside of Toronto.

The drive up was pretty cool. We got our tents set up in record time. It was a pretty nice camp site. John and Rachel had lent us some camping equipment including a tent to sleep in. We ate an awesome lunch and dinner. Diana and i got to swim a bit at the beach. After the kids went to bed we had a few beers and talked around the campfire. It was an awesome night. Kath seemed to have a good time. I thought i had won her over with camping. Then we went to sleep. That's when the trip took a turn for the worse.

I fell asleep quickly and found myself waking up every hour. It seems I'm a little too old to sleep in a tent and my back was killing me. I fell back to sleep. Then around 3 am it started to rain. We had left the windows open to get some air in the tent. We woke up and quickly shut the windows. Some rain got in and my  feet were soaked. We went back to sleep until  roughly 9 am. The rain let up for a tiny bit but continued all damn day. We managed to get some tarps up so we  would have some shelter and keep dry. Darren got the fire started and we had a great breakfast, lunch and dinner. Around 5pm we decided to give up and get the f--- out of dodge. We weren't gonna stay another night in the rain. We packed up the cars and got our asses back to the Niagara region.

Diana had a great time and we loved the first night. I think we may be done with camping--unless we rent a camper or something. So it turns  out camping is a younger mans game. Oh well.

Best Canada day ever!!

I should probably tell you all about the best thing that happened  to me this month. For that we need to go all the way back to July 1st. Canada day.

The night before Canada day on June 30th i actually found out about an exciting event being held in downtown St Catharines the next day.  In the market square there would be ponies and face painting and bouncy houses and hot dogs, There would also be a band playing. That band? They were a big band in Canada in the 80's and  early 90's. They had a top 40 song in America. They also sang the theme song to the awesome Lethal Weapon movie and they had a song featured on the final episode of Miami Vice. Yup i did try and sell Kath on the show with all those facts. She didn't seem impressed. However Diana wanted to do something to celebrate Canada day and the event was free. Kath decided we would go. For the record Honeymoon Suite was not the great thing that happenned to me that day as mentioned in the first line of this blog.

We arrived downtown and there was a lack of parking. I figured we would give up and go home. We eventually found a spot and went to the show. We looked around for a bit. Kath pointed out a big guy with tattoos at a food line.

"that looks a lot like Colin"  she said.

If you remember Colin was one of my best friends for years. We met in grade 10 and had a lot of great times. We liked the same music and he actually got me into Bruce Springsteen. He was the best man at my wedding. We had a falling out in 2007 and hadn't really talked since. He called me when my dad passed away three years ago and then that was it. My mom ran into him a bunch of times and i guess he asked about me. I've been wanting to call him for the last year but kept chickening out.

"nah," i replied. 'that's not him. Too many tattoos."

We walked a bit further and ran into a guy named Billy. He is Colin's brother in law. Sure enough it was Colin we had seen and Billy said i should go say hi. I gotta admit i was really nervous. What was i going to say? I walked up and said hi and we shot the bs a little. Then Kath and i ate lunch. Colin came back over and we started talking. He asked if i would walk with him for a bit so i did. Turns out he had been thinking of calling me for awhile also and he was nervous to do so. We caught each other up a bit and exchanged phone numbers. We both hate talking on the phone but don't mind texting. So that was cool.

I have to say that after our conversation i felt like a million bucks. I got my friend back after all these years. So thanks to Kath for agreeing to go. Oh by the way Honeymoon Suite still sounded great after all these years. All hail the Suite!!

There's a Sharknado coming!!

Holy crap its July 22nd. I guess its time for my 2nd blog of the whole month. I really have no excuse.  I will say that i have become obsessed with the made for tv film Sharknado.  Whats Sharknado you may ask? Well its one of those God awful made movies by the sci fi network in the United States. They have a history of terrible creature movies such as Mega Sark, Crocosauras  v gatoroid and the popular Sharktopus.

This time out its a film about a terrible hurricane in Los Angeles. It branches off into a tornado which is able to pick up all the sharks in the area from the ocean. No other sea life just sharks. Then the sharks cause all sorts of trouble and killing everybody while the city floods. Its really is a terrible movie. Oh and Ian Zierring and Tara Reid are the stars of it. That should tell you a lot about it.

I went into work a week ago and i hadn't even heard of this masterpiece. Everyone at work was talking about it. I found out even celebrities were talking about it and it was trending on twitter, I went home after work and Kath had been talking about it with some of her friends as well.  So we decided we would watch it and we did. I joked about it on facebook and then some of our buddies suggested we do a segment on the pod cast about it. We were able to get our friends Kate and Paul in on the fun and we recorded a pretty funny show. A week later i can't stop talking about Sharknado. Its pretty sad.

Welcome July!!

Hi folks. Remember that time i said i would keep up to date on the blog. Well you can see that didn't happen. Life has been getting in the way.  Damn day job. I do have a few nice things to talk about this month. I just have to collect my thoughts. So its July. Only took me 2 weeks to get to a July blog.  It's actually July 14th. I'm a day late to wish my favorite actor Harrison Ford a happy birthday, Happy belated birthday Indy. Diana is having a great summer. She plays outside everyday with her friend Meah. She's also spending a lot of time with her buddy Sarah.  Wish i could spend the day outside and not  talking to any idiots on the phone. Ok gang so i promise  to get at least 7 blogs written this month. Do we have a deal? In that case i will talk to you all soon.

Nice work Diana

I am seriously proud of my kid. She kicked serious butt with her report card. All as and bs and she improved from good to excellent in a lot of categories. Her teacher wrote nice things about her. So proud. Thank God she takes after Kath in the smarts department. She rocks. I can't believe she's going into grade 3. Why is she growing up so fast?

Dammit!! part 2

Eating supper and part of my tooth fell out. What the hell? Luckily it was from the back of my mouth. F me. Seriously.

Dammit!! Part one

I am having issues reading now. Straining my eyes to read small print. Think i may need glasses. Son of a bitch. Oh well maybe it'll be like a superman/clark kent thing and no one will know its me when 'm wearing them.

Con day 2!!

Good day and welcome to  day 2 of our Niagara Falls comic con coverage. Saturday was fun but crowded. We had a better time on Sunday. It wasn't as busy and we were able to move about freely. We decided to do all our work when we got there at 11. Let me walk you through our interviews.

Interview  # 1 was with a fellow geek journalist we had met at Pulp Comics on Free Comic Book day. Her name was Steph and she runs her own geek web site called the Geek Chic Elite or GCE for short. We thought she was really cool when we met her and we had set up an interview with her that day. At the con she was really nice and we got to go into her booth to interview her. It was really great. Kath and i felt a kindred spirit with her. She also makes her own geek themed soaps including an awesome Han Solo in carbon Freeze, We bought some soap and pins from her.

Interview #2 was with  a very important organization called Cosplay for A cure. They raise money for cancer research by taking donations. When you make donations you can have your pic taken with one of their cos players. We had our pic taken with Jubillee and Wonder Girl. Its a fantastic group and if you see these people at a future convention please contribute.

That brings us to Interview #3. We actually knew the guy doing the photos for Cosplay For A cure. His name  is Rob and  he worked with me at my hellish job for about 9 years out of my 12. Great guy. He runs  his own photography company called Rebel Shotz  photography. I used to have awesome conversations with him at work about old tv shows and sci fi movies. We'd been enjoying his photos on facebook. He is really talented. Then we found out he was going to be helping out at the con and asked him for an interview. We had a great time catching up with Rob.
Our next two interviews were with 2 of our good friends---Artist extraordinaire and partner to  us on the podcast John Bulmer and Kristen Hunter who was there selling her geek themed Jewelry.  They were great as usual.

We also got to interview a couple of local guys that started their own local comic book company called Poor man Comics. Here's the cool thing. As soon as i mentioned who we were they knoew who we were! They were actually following us on twitter!  Small world. That's actually something else i wanted to mention. We've had the podcast in existence for 4 months and  this was the 4th  event we have covered. People from past events  were coming up to us and saying hi! Different artists and people like us were shaking hands with us and thanking us for interviews and what not. Kath and i really felt appreciated and part of a community. Again were getting this great feedback and friendship after 4 months. Makes me feel like were doing something right. It felt good. More people are checking us out-- a lot more than with the old show that's for sure. I feel kind of proud.

All in all our con experience was great. We had a fantastic time and we're already  looking forward to next year.

Niagara Falls comic con day one

Hey gang. While I'm in such a good mood I want to tell you about this years experience at the Niagara Falls Comic con. It was a 2 day event this year. It's certainly grown from the small even it began as 2 years ago. Our friend Paul outdid himself this year. We were lucky enough to go both days. On free comic book day we got a special deal where we bought Saturday tickets and got Sunday tickets for free. Sweet deal. It was the first time Kath and i would be going to  more than a day of a con. We were denied press passes despite our best attempts. We still went in We Got the Geek  mode and we were able to get some  great  interviews.

Saturday was insanely busy. Lots of people. At one point the building was at capacity and they weren't letting a lot of people in. I'm not a big fan of large crowds and neither is Kath. She set up camp in the lobby and i took Diana around to shop. I was able to find 2 really cheap graphic novels. I  like saving money. I;m a big fan of that. Kath and i decided that we would do all our interviews and work for the podcast on Sunday. We scheduled interview times with  everyone for the following day.

We got to see a bunch of our friends and family on the first day. My mom and nephew showed up. It was my mom's first con and she loved it. Our friends John and Kristen had booths there. We got to hang out with them for a bit. Lots to see there. The bat mobile and General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard were there. Very cool. It was a great day and we didn't spend a lot of money!! In part 2 I'll tell you about our interviews on 2 the second day and why we feel very welcome in the geek community!

Fun Expo 2013

Well a few weeks later we were back at Fun Expo in Welland. This was our third year attending. Its a star wars related show for charity and we had liked going to it in previous years. This year would be different. We would be having a table there to promote We Got The Geek. Bulmer had talked us up to the guy in charge of the event Mr  Rob D'Onofrio. We were honored to be there. We set up our table and played the roll the dice game. Our buddy Ryan showed up and took a million awesome pictures and he helped me do several interviews. We interviewed three amazing artists-Christopher yao, Mike Rooth and Leonard Kirk(who works for Marvel comics).

Now i want to tell you the amazing  part of the day. I got to interview 2 actors that had appeared in the original Star Wars trilogy. Firs up was Pam Rose who played an alien in the famous Cantina scene from the original film. We also got to talk with Mr Alan Flyng who was in not 1 but 2 star wars films. He played a storm trooper in the scene where Han Solo was frozen in the Empire Strikes Back and in Return of the Jedi he played an imperial officer. I've been a huge star wars fan my whole life so i was seriously nerding out. They were both really nice. I was so nervous talking to them but i think i did a good job.

So to top off the day,as i was helping John pack up his table. Pam Rose came by and invited Kath and i along to the end of the day dinner celebrating the day. I was in shock. We went to dinner and it was the perfect end to the perfect day. Thanks
Rob for including us.We'll see you next year at Fun Expo 2014

Art o con!!

Ok enough screwing around. I need to catch up on my blogging. I admit i have been lazy. I come home from my job, usually with a headache and i crash on the couch. Well because of this i have neglected my blog. Weve had some positive things happen to us and i'd like to share it with anyone still following the blog. We have now covered four major events with We Got The Geek. You already know about our awesome Free Comic Book day at Pulp Comics. The next event actually occurred the next day in Burlington at a new  con called art o con.

So we were invited by our good friend artist extraordinaire John Bulmer to share a table with him at this event. Its been in existence for two years now and its a show case for artists and their work. The lady that organized the event was named Lara Aiken and we had done an interview with her a few weeks earlier that proved to be really popular. She was awesome and the event she put on was great.

We were seated by the Doctor Who society of Canada. They had built life size replicas of the Daleks--the evil robots from Dr  Who. The robots moved and talked and they were really cool. We got some fantastic interviews as well. We got to interview a group of cos players called the Xmen of Toronto. They dress like characters from the Xmen and do a lot of charity work. Very nice group. We also spoke with a great artist from studio comikx named Alfonso. Great guy, We also got to speak with someone we had interviewed on the old show--Lisa from Nerd Biskit. She makes fantastic crafts and she has been a great friend to us.

It was an awesome day and one of the best shows we have attended. We were thankful for being asked to attend. We were already told we would be asked back  for next year, Can't wait.

Some random crap

Wow i had a burst of blogs a couple of weeks ago and then nothing. Work has been busy. When i'm not there i just wanna come home and watch tv or work on the podcast. Had some good segments the last few weeks. Ryan and Stacey both came in to help at different times. Still having a great time.

Been a couple of crazy weeks. Kath got a new job. She's working from home now which is really cool. We're saving money on gas and babysitting and we're both off at the same time every day with the same days off. I found out i'm getting a new manager next Friday. Not sure i like that news. Steve has always been cool to me and helped me and always marked me fairly when it came to qualities. Not sure how i feel about a new manager coming in. I guess i'll find out soon enough.

In other news that i don't like my upstairs computer died and the fridge seems to be dying as well. Ah the old Stewart luck. You know what? It hasn't been all terrible and i will write some happy blogs in the next couple of days. Thats a promise from me to you!!

1000

Ok so yesterday i decided i wanted to get back into blogging. I came up with four blog entrees. Whoopity doo. I realize I've been slacking. Three entrees in April? Seriously Jay come on. Then i realized that this blog would be number one thousand. I started the blog back in 2008 and i was proud we got to a thousand. Then i realized i have absolutely nothing to say, The one thousandth blog was going to be boring as hell. So i reached out to my Facebook friends. Would they be able to make any suggestions? Or would i be stuck with a blog where i just said the word blog a million times. Well let's see what my friends came up with.

Matt asked me--Have you written an entry about diarrhea yet?  Does the day job count Matt?

Geoff suggested-Why Aquaman is a badass.

Hey I've blogged in the past about how much i loved the Peter David run of Aquaman back in the 90's. The whole, long hair, beard and hook hand era of Aquaman.  I was pissed when they switched him back to short hair and orange shirt Aquaman. He was back to being a joke. A joke that is until the Dc comics reboot that happened almost 2 years ago.  My favorite comic book writer Geoff Johns took over the title and he totally made Aquaman cool. As a matter of fact in the first issue of the reboot, Aquaman beat the shit out of a car and didn't blink. Go Arthur Curry!! His title was a reboot i really enjoyed. In comparison i am really hating the direction that Superman has taken and have stopped collecting it. I have every issue of Superman since 1986 so it wasn't an easy decision. Aquaman thank you for restoring my faith in characters who swim and kick ass.

What did my friend Kimmy bring to the table?   She said
Boobs and glasses? How the Leafs suck? Lol

Ok i guess i got some 'splaining to do. I don't like The Toronto Maple Leafs. Yes i am Canadian and not a really big hockey fan, These crazy fans and their chant of Go Leafs, Go. It's insane. They haven't won a Stanley Cup since before i was born. That should say something. I am really old after all. They somehow made it into the play offs this year, This is the first time in a decade. Opened up my facebook and its all anyone is talking about. Geez.

Guess i should explain boobs and glasses huh?  So about 15 years ago i worked at a hole called the Donut Diner. The midnight shift, selling coffee to drunks. It sucked. It was there that i became friends with Kimmy. She is a really cool and attractive friend of mine. Oh yeah she also liked flashing me and Kath. Not gonna lie-- it wasn't a horrible thing. It got me through many a shift. We still talk pretty openly to this day. A few weeks ago she put up a tasteful pic that was showing some cleavage and she was wearing  glasses. So i had to make a comment. It may have involved liking boobs and glasses. It was innocent. I kind of have a thing for women who wear glasses. Just ask Kath she'll back me up. I'm going to add a pic of Kimmy groping my wife for good measure.

Anyhow i guess that was an ok one thousandth entree. It could have been a whole lot worse. Hey its been a great ride. I'm thankful to people that are still reading and as always grateful to my friend Allison who convinced me to write my thoughts down for all to see. If i stay on track I'm sure i can get to Two thousand blog entrees before 2020.

The Bauer Power hour is back baby!!

Holy lord God!!  Just read the best news ever. 24 is coming back!!!!!!! Its one of my all time favorite shows. I've missed Jack Bauer yelling dammit and kicking terrorist ass every week!! So its just a mini series. It'll be 12 episodes set over a 24 hour period. Isn't out until the summer of 2014 though so to quote the man himself---dammit!!!

Free Comic Book Day 2013

So last Saturday May the 4th (be with you.get it?) We made our  first public appearance at Pulp Comics. Free comic book day is a magical day when comic book stores get comics from all the different publishers and  you can pick one or 2 to take  home free of charge. Hence the name. Free comic book day occurs every year  on the first  saturday  of May.

Here's the thing,we did our old show from there last year and we weren't counting on being asked this year. Our original plan was to  cruise to all the comic book stores in the area and maybe  randomly talking to different customers. Then we got a message from Paul at Pulp comics asking us if we wanted to be there. We jumped at the chance. Our buddy John Bulmer was already going to be there drawing and there was going to be cake and a barbeque.

I turned out to be a blast. Our buddy Ryan helped out for a bit. We met a lot of cool people and some  contacts as well. We met a really nice lady named Steph from a web site called Geek Chic Elite. She was really cool and included us in her review of Free Comic book day. She was also nice and took some of our business cards to hand out. We agreed to set up an interview  with her at this years Niagara Falls comic con.

Kath had the brilliant idea to set up a roll the dice question and answer game. We had a 20 sided dice and what ever number came up they would choose a geek question from the list and answer it. We recorded all the questions with our spiffy new recording device and we aired it on the pod cast.Everybody was really cool and nice when it came to answering.

My buddy Stacey showed up later on. I think it may have been her first time in a comic book store. She helped out for a bit. She also agreed to come to the Niagara Falls Comic con in June. Also saw a former kfc co worker named Kelly from back in the day.

We had a great time. Thanks for inviting us Paul. It was a fantastic day. Did i mention there was cake as well?

Poor blog

Hello blog. Sorry i have been neglecting you. I'm sorry buddy. I promise to write more and try harder. We've had a lot of fun and good times. Remember those times where i would complain about work and share it with everybody? Good times.I know there are still friends that want to read you pal. I know April sucked what with only 3 blogs being written. I promise to at least double that number this month. What do you say blog? Still friends?

Happy Mothers day!

I'm two hours late but I just wanted to wish all the mothers out there a very happy Mothers Day.I got to talk to my mom for a bit today. She might be coming out to see us at Fun Expo next Saturday. Should be cool.I think we may be  going to see the new Star Trek movie soon. Love you mom. To quote Bruce Willis, Thanks for  not saying no to Dad 44 years ago.

So In my small way I'm a big man on mulberry street

Holy crap i've been so busy that the blog has been seriously ignored, We have a week left in April and i have only blogged three times. This is actually the third. I'm letting both of my fans down. Taking a quick time out from working on show related stuff to blog. I found something cool on you tube to have on in the background while i blog. Someone  posted a concert that i was actually at in 1990. Billy Joel in Toronto on the Storm front tour. Its bringing back a lot of good memories--its also making me feel really old. Storm Front was my favorite Billy Joel album. You guys might remember the hits that came from it--We Didn't Start The Fire and I go To Extremes.  Watching this concert and thats how i want to remember Billy Joel. Back then he was in his prime. He didn't milk his greatest hits. Unfortunately he hasn't had a new cd since 1993 so  when he does tor its only greatest hits. Back then he used to move around a lot as well and would even get up from the piano once in awhile. These days he doesn't leave the piano much. I know he's older now and i'm not expecting him to jump off the piano like he used to but come on man.   Really feeling nostalgic watching this concert--i was actually there!!   So many good memories from that night. Man that guy could rock. It was the first and only time i got to see him play the songs Shameless and Leningrad. I was still friends with Colin and he was with me at that show. By the way--how was that 23 years ago? It was seriously in my top 10 concerts of all time. Now if someone would just find footage from my first Billy Joel concert back in 1984.

Hi to Andrea

Just want to give  a shout out to one of my best friends Andrea. She is a follower of the blog. Yes the very blog i have been neglecting. When i was going over the stats on our web site i found out that the geek survey we did with her is the one that people have checked out the most. So congrats Andrea and hope you will come be part of our little show again someday!!

April is here--how did that happen?

Holy crap i have been neglecting the blog. First blog in April!!  Man. It's been an awesome week. We crossed the 1900 hits mark on our we got the geek web site and we are on the fast track to 2000 hits. We got our portable recorder. We took it on our first interview to Pulp comics to  ask Paul about free comic book day and the Niagara Falls comic con. It was awesome. The sound was  great ! We put it up on our site yesterday!! Turned out great. We're getting ready for free comic book day and Art 0 con--both events in a couple of weeks. Gonna b a great weekend. Hoping to catch Iron Man 3 in that weekend as well. The regular day job has been completely sucking. I wish the show was my day job. I'm sure i have said that a time or 2. Been really busy. Don't want to neglect the blog. I'll do my best to keep up folks.

We Got The Geek live appearances

The good news continues. In may our pod cast We Got The Geek has been invited to 3 live events. So excited

The first show is one we've been going to for a few years called Fun Expo. It's a great little Star Wars themed show in Welland Ontario and all proceeds go to charity. Bulmer really talked us up  to the guys putting the event on. They let us have a table for free and we're right near the door where everyone will need to walk by. I have loved going to this show anyway so its going to be really cool.

Bulmer also got us into a show in Burlington Ontario called Art O con. They have artist and crafts and all sorts of cool things. John had a big table and had room for us to sit and do our show. So stoked.

Thn last week out of the blue Paul from Pulp Comics messages us and asks us if the new pod cast wants to take part in free comic book day again. Of course we said yes. Last year we were there with the old show and had an amazing time.

Things are shaping up folks, I am happy and that is amazing.

Yup you guessed it more podcast goodness

Wow i'm kind of on a roll so I'm gonna talk more about the podcast. All my expectations are being met and then some. Kath has gotten all our segments up on our site and even on itunes. Stuff that should have been done on the old show. Kath even has a section of our website where we can see how many people have viewed our content. Are you ready for this? In a month 1,300 people have visited our site. I am beyond floored. People  seem to like us. That makes me happy. We have 22 segments recorded and we are trying to get new stuff up often. We have a movie review section, a comic book segment and of course news and geek surveys. Ryan has some friends that want to come in and record segments on horror movies and steam punk and gaming. I would produce and his friends would be the hosts. That's pretty cool. Its taking off for us. So are you all getting sick about hearing about the pod cast or should i go back into retirement  from blogging again?

A new geek pod cast is born.

So February 19th we went public with We Got The Geek. We alerted everyone in our group about the change and we got a ton of positive support. People were extremely happy for us. Our first official podcast was with my good friend Andrea and we reviewed A Good Day To Die Hard. Andrea hadn't appeared on the old show so was really happy to finally record with her. She was great.

I've really been enjoying the comic book segments we've been doing. For a solid hour I get to talk about comics. So far we've done segments with Hunter and Bulmer and Ryan and then  on a couple magical nights it was a full table of us laughing and having a great time. There is nothing but  good feelings with this show. I don't feel like i have to be constantly looking over my shoulder waiting for the show to drop. These are guys i trust completely. Its  been awesome. No racist jokes or blurting out facts that just aren't true. Having a good time is the name of the game here folks.

Farewell to Gygo

So February 18th was upon us. I invited Bulmer,Kristen and Hunter on. They all knew what was coming. I was really nervous i was going to quit  on the air. It was something i had loved doing. I was tired of the way i was being treated on my show. I was tired that my vision of the show just wasn't happening. I wanted people to actually be able to listen to us. It was time to quit Gygo. One cool thing happened before air time. Kath was supposed to work but then got the night off. This was good i needed all the support i could get.

So the show started at 7 and i was actually having a good time. For a change the show was going great. This was pretty ironic as this was to be our last show. Then i started to panic. Did i really want to quit? I was having second thoughts. There was 5 minutes left in the show and i went for it. As much as i wanted to be out of this and move on to our next venture i wasn't a dick about it and i didn't point fingers. I said my piece and i thought it was a great farewell speech. I thought i was going to puke and cry the whole time. While i was in the middle of quitting  my phone started getting a massive amount of texts and my facebook messages started lighting up. My friends were concerned and happy for me at the same time. The speech ended i concluded with a line Billy Joel uses to end his concerts--"don't take any shit from anybody."The final song was a really nice Ray Charles song i had first heard on the final episode of the 80's series Moonlighting called We'll Be Together Again. I was hoping this would be true when our pod cast started--that everyone would join us there.  By the way the final speech was recorded by Kath and you can see it here   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1Mbl3JdoUE

So nothing was said when the show ended. I wasn't asked for an explanation as to what brought this decision on or what was going on in my head. I hadn't been happy in a year and the incident in January cemented my desire to move on.  Gygo was done and it was now on to my next adventure with our new partners John and Ryan.

Rambling on a Sunday evening

Man i have blogged twice this month. I really have been busy. And i have been feeling crappy this week so the couch has been my friend. Had a great day hanging out with Kath. We got invited to have Easter  dinner in London Ontario at my sister Erin;s place. Looking forward to it. Oh yeah next weekend is Easter. Totally unprepared for the kids Easter basket. No plan of attack at all. I'm going to try to blog more often again--including the exciting conclusion to our new show. For now i just wanted to let you all know i am doing alright. I have the best family and friends and it has been a great month so far.

Ryan comes through

Well if we were going to  do a podcast we were going to need a  mic or 2. Kath and John did some research. They found a really cool omni directional mic. It was fairly inexpensive and we would all chip in for it. Before we could divide up the cost,Ryan pretty much threw the cash at us and said he was paying for the whole thing. He said it was his gift to us  for starting this awesome new venture. Ryan if you are reading this i really appreciate it buddy. You are a true friend and i am really happy we have partnered up for this.

Kath placed the order online and two days later it was here. We went down to the basement and hooked it up and then came the important part. We did some tests. The mic is so awesome. It picked up  our talking no matter where we were in the room. This made me so happy and i got so excited. I immediately sent texts to John and Ryan and a few other friends. The equipment was great. I was going to quit Gygo and be happy. One last hurdle. I had to quit Gygo and our producer hadn't shown up for 3 episodes. What was going to happen?

Stay tuned....

Overcoming hurdles

Wow i left the last post on a cliff hanger and then didn't follow it up for 2 weeks. So in the last post you read what lead Kath and i to decide to quit the radio show that we loved doing. I wasn't happy. Things needed to change for the better.  I wanted to feel like i could create a show where i  could make suggestions and not get yelled at.We needed to figure out what was involved with setting up a pod cast and we needed some awesome equipment.

It wasn't long before Kath solved the first issue. She set up a website for us. WWW.WEGOTTHEGEEK.COM. It was fairly inexpensive to maintain. So now if the web site ever went down it was all on us. I wouldn't have to worry about someone else paying the bills to keep the site going. We did some test recordings with the old craptastic gygo equipment and put them up on the web site. The recordings went up fairly easy. Bulmer and our friends Hunter and Kristen helped us  out with some recordings about comic books. One of the things i wanted to do was have an hour comic book segment on our site. On Gygo we were always running out of time to discuss comics. Instead of one massive three hour show i wanted to break the segments down into one hour bits so people could just throw on an episode at any time. Website for our pod cast? Check. Now what to do about a new state of the art microphone?
To be continued.....

We're not gonna take it

So Kath and i made an announcement  on Get Your Geek On 2 weeks ago. The announcement was that we were  quitting. So what brought this on? Didn't i love doing the show? Well yeah of course i loved  doing the show. Unfortunately over the past year little things kept adding up. More and more i was getting frustrated. None of our shows were going up on our site. Every week i would get people  asking me how they could listen to the shows when they missed the live show. Everytime i would shrug and look like an idiot. I confided in a couple of friends who kept telling me i had to move on. I remained loyal to gygo even though i was getting more and more annoyed.

So about a month ago. Something hapenned that really set me off. Without going into  the gory details i did what i thought was a huge favor for the show and the station we were on. My hard work wasn't appreciated and i was put down in front of 2 brand new guests on the air. This caused me to actually walk out in the middle of the show. I went back after a few minutes because i didn't want to let people down. However i was fuming and i had trouble keeping my train of thought. The show went on though.

The next day  a buddy of ours John Bulmer who i had met through the show had heard what  occurred and asked us over for dinner. We discussed what we wanted out of a geek show and where we wanted to take things. We definitely wanted  more people to hear what we had to say.  We decided a podcast would be the way to go. So a decision  was made to partner up with John and Another friend Ryan Mcnab. We formed a production company and named it Mc Meatball Stew productions. We would be doing a podcast and not a live show. We just had to come up with a name. We threw a few names out there and then my 7 year old Diana piped up with We Got The Geek. We all fell in love with the name.  We had a couple of hurdles to  over come. We had to set up a new web site and get some proper equipment. When that happenned I would be comfortable quitting Gygo.

To Be Continued.....

He was big trouble

My friends are funny, I was at work yesterday and a text comes through from Andrea. She wanted to know if Chinese John Oates was in Big Trouble in Little China. Chinese John Oates is an actor named Ali Aleong who kind of looks like an asian version of John Oates.. As a matter of fact if you get in a deloreon and go back to 2008 you'll see i blogged about this man. In the 80's and 90's he showed up in every action movie. He played the asian american terrorist who ate the chocolate bar in Die Hard. He also played the asian american criminal who tortured Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon. Anyhow Andrea thanks for the laugh at work . Enjoy this picture of a great action star.

Please take the weather with you

What is the deal with this weather? Is it snowing, is it raining? make up your mind already! On my third pair of socks already today. Gross. Can it be spring now please?

The Jstew donut diet

Wow stepped on a scale today expecting to be horrified. Turns out in 2 weeks i have 8 pounds. The miracle of that is i didn't exercise and ate a lot of donuts. I seriously don't get it. So yup this is definitely my year! A whoo hoo!!

Free as a bird

Happy birthday to my favorite Beatle and Wilbury George Harrison. It would have been his 70th birthday today. Was just watching some old videos of his. Man he  kicked ass on the guitar.

Noooooooo!!!!!!

My favorite cheap video store has closed its doors for good. No more 5 dollar dvd's for me. That makes me feel like a sad panda. Well i had almost a year of cheap dvds not to mention a 100 dollar shopping spree. All good things must come to an end.

A Good day to Die Hard

So how was everyone's valentines day? Yeah i am really behind seeing how its now the 25th. Our valentines day was great. We got to hang out with our good friend Andrea. We had a little dinner at Wimpy's in the fall. Oh h yeah we saw a  little independent film called A Good Day To Die Hard. That's right kids Die Hard 5!!  The original Die Hard is still one of my favorite movies ever. John McClane is one of the  greatest characters ever. I've been counting the days since this project was announced. I loved it a lot. It felt more like a Die Hard film than the last one. There were all sorts of nods to the original. It was fantastic--and one of the best uses of yippee ki a--mother f------. It's been getting a lot of negative reviews which i don't get. Its Bruce Willis blowing up stuff. Its not rocket science. Anyhow such a great choice for a valentines day movie. Nothing says romance like a Die Hard film.

The cat came back

Ok i guess i should start the February blogs with the best news we got. After a month and a half we got Starlight back. Starlight is our little black ninja cat who went missing December 23'rd. A week ago we got a call from the Humane society saying she had been turned in. Lucky for us she has a chip  they were able to use to locate her owners. I couldn't believe it! I had almost given up hope of seeing her again. I was hoping a nice family had taken her in. She is a little bit tinier now but she is still a friendly cat and it didn't take her long to get comfortable with us again. Elvis spent kept trying to play with her and kept crying. I was so happy. We had gotten  our little buddy home and the Stewart family was complete again.

Feeling Alright!

Ok i haven't been blogging. I have a total of 4 blogs--soon to be 5 this year. I still feel like this is my year but January felt crappy. We had some car issues that i don't really want to get into. That problem was fixed and the car  situation is great. So here we are 18 days into February and things feel great. I feel happy again and that's what counts. I'm off work today. I had a weird schedule for the last 2 weeks and now i'm back to normal. I slept in way to late today but i feel better. Just wanted to check in to let everyone know i was ok. I'll blog a little more later. Have a great night!

18 days til we die hard!

18 days till A Good Day To Die Hard!!  Can you tell I am excited!!  I can't believe the original Die Hard is 25 years old. I am very old. I remember seeing it when it was new. I never  would have guessed that Bruce Willis would become a huge action star. Did i mention we were going on Valentines day? Thats a romantic movie for sure!
